KC Keeler has pulled the plug on John Perry's tenure as SHSU offensive coordinator after five games and turned the reins over to TE coach Matt Merkens. It looks like Perry was demoted as opposed to fired but it's never a good thing when the head coach refers to his own offense as "historically bad" and "pretty horrific".

John Perry was brought to Georgetown in 2005. Some saw him the man to turn around a four year slump for the program. Didn't happen--he was out in one year and the slump continues to this day.

The Dave Patenaude years in 2010-2011 were pretty good for you guys though.

No more Eric Schmid and Jaqueez Ezzard have anything to do with it?

Sure, but Perry never worked with those guys in the first place. Still plenty of highly talented skill position guys on the roster, some of which remain from the title team (Adeyi, Chrest). Unlike Carty, or Longo before him, Perry has shown no willingness to get the ball into playmakers hands in unconventional ways. Sam is too talented at WR and RB this season to be as bad as they were. He hasn’t put our average QBs in winning situations and did a poor job finding a rhythm at any point this year.
SHSU was also something like 10/16 on Red Zone tries under Perry which is pretty bad. It took them four weeks to score a touchdown on a D1 team. Apparently, Perry is no longer with the team. Keeler has been quiet about it, short and concise when asked, calling it a “demotion”. But it seems as if Perry was simply fired. He’s no longer listed in the game notes, and is listed as “QB coach” on the internet.

Georgetown was 12-10 in those two seasons, with an 8-3 in 2011 before he left for Coastal Carolina.
Since then, 31-73.
