View Full Version : Do any other FCS schools have these?

Not a cocky thing, just wondering if any other teams have indoor facilities for football (and all sports really). I know for a fact it will be used often up here the way the weather changes it's mind all the time.

The worst weather we get down in Statesboro is the occasional rain shower, and since you play in rain you might as well practice in it.
It's late October and the high tomorrow is 87 so I don't think we'll be building an indoor facility anytime soon.
That one looks nice though.

Craziness.
Might as well play on top of the Quick Stop ;op

Is it a full field? Looks like it's not but maybe the picture is misleading....looks sweet though. Wish we had one right now because of the fires here in San Diego can't practice due to horrible air quality.....

Our weather is too mild to justify that expense right now.
We can remove the court, fold back some chairs and lay down a rug when we need to.

Georetown played football games for 22 years on "the roof". The problem was (and is) that water gets underneath the turf and leaks into the building, distorting the playing surface above and ultimately causing structural damage to the concrete facility below.
It got so bad that the field hockey team, the last sport to still play up there, has moved its home games to the University of Maryland, 35 minutes from the Georgetown campus (add time for rush hour).

October 22nd, 2007, 09:49 PM
It would be hard to justify that with our weather at Cal Poly.
Average high temp September 78.8 degrees, average low 52.3, average rainfall .2 inches
October avg high 76.3 avg low 50.0 avg rain .9 inches.
November avg high 69.3 avg low 45.7 avg rain 2.1 inches.
When it rains here it gets warmer as our storms are tropical storms. Most rain comes in January, February and March.

Pepsi Americas Center - Corporate sponsorship, no tuition hike.
The new $2 million indoor facility, completed in April 2005, houses a 50 x 53 yard field with a regulation endzone and a 7-yard runoff on all sides. The playing surface is state-of-the-art 'Field-Turf' and the roof peaks at 50 feet. The addition of the Pepsi Center allows UCA's outdoor sports to practice during rainy or high-heat and humidity conditions. The Pepsi Center is located adjacent to the practice field on the west side of Estes Stadium. xthumbsupx

Brown also has a building with a field on the roof. I heard they played a lacrosse game on it in the late winter.

What do you need an indoor practice facility for?
Bobcats practice before one of the playoff games last year, I think this was before the Appy St. game, possibly before the Fruman game.

They stick with the astroturf due to it being a multiuse facility.
While they no longer play basketball in there, the have indoor track, some softball, occasional big wrestling meets I think, and non-sport uses such as concerts, boat shows, etc. etc.
Unless fieldturf and the like can be rolled up and moved out, I rather doubt they'll be switching.

Yeah, its one of the air bubble domes. It was just put in this year, cost $2 million. Since we dont give scholarships, and charge $40,000 a year tution we can afford it.
It is the full length of the field and high enough you can play a full game inside.
The funny thing is they always keep the temp. at 55 degrees, inside it, lol.

You beat me to it! I must say, it's odd to go in the Dome (and it's cool that we can just go in there as students) and see the turf rolled up on the sides. That's what we used to do for basketball until the McLeod Center opened last year.
(why can't I find a good picture of the McLeod Center?!?)
ETA: Never mind! I have some I took before it was done and open.

It would be an incredible waste of money for us to build an indoor facility. The climate here is very mild. This past year was the hottest in a long time, but generally, the heat during summer and spring practice isn't bad, and we haven't had any severe cold during practice for longer than I can remember. Just not realistic. Tennis, soccer, and basketball have indoor facilities of course, but that's it.
