Next up is ISUb at YSU. The Trees put up a good fight against NDSU losing 31-26 after leading at the half 13-10. YSU lost to UND 35-30 dropping what could have been a potential win on a muffed punt, blocked and returned for a TD.

I view this game as YSU as a slight favorite.

In preseason predictions, I picked YSU to win 4 games for sure and had a shot at winning 5. I picked them to win the first 2 light weight games and games with Indy St and WIU. I thought UND was a toss up game but picked them to beat YSU in game week pick em contest. If they lose this game , they are in serious trouble.

I predicted a close game but nothing of this type. YSU still has a long ways to go.

Coaching was awful again. Force Indy to use their last TO and then instead of running the ball eating up the clock you throw it,incompletion stopping the clock. Dumbazz move

Just some overall thoughts from yesterday's game...

- Happy with the victory, but I felt our coaching nearly cost us this game. Here are a few major coaching mistakes that left me scratching my head:

1) The 2nd and 8 play with 2:40 left in the game was the more egregious of them all. Indiana State had 0 timeouts left and we decide to pass to the sidelines instead of rushing it and chewing up the clock. Naturally the pass was incomplete which stopped the clock. Prior to that play, we ran the ball EIGHT straight times on that possession and we were having success doing it. Why get cute Rothenbuehler?

2) Playcalling at the end of the 1st half. YSU surrendered a late TD to ISU with 1:31 on the clock. Based on the fact we had already scored 35 points and had not one, not two, but all three timeouts, we had plenty of time to get to the endzone, but at the very least get in FG range. We ran the ball 5 times that possession, failed on two pass attempts, and on the last play of the half we were sacked. Unacceptable.

3) Special teams mistake on the ISU onside kick. Simply put, the coaching should have had the special teams ready for that. ISU couldn't stop us and they were going to need a turnover or an onside to get back on track possession wise. That completely changed the complexion of the game and gave ISU a very real shot at getting ahead in the 4th quarter.

4) We have to lead the entire nation across all divisions on run plays on 3rd and long.

While happy with the win, remember ISUb is projected for near basement in MVFC. It’s the 3rd win. I’m on track being correct every week so far on YSU winning or losing. Won’t get easier except for possibly WIU.

Poor tackling, poor coaching and poor D all point to the challenges ahead.
