Final Battle of the Piney Woods

Saturday will be the last time SFA and Sam Houston meet in a football game. (at least for the foreseeable future) It is one of the longest rivalries in Texas college football history. Lot's of great memories of games, tailgating, and the Flanders Flip. Couldn't get any closer than it was last year.

If we had not lost so much on defense to the portal over the off season, as well as so many position coaches to FBS hires, this would be a SFA blow out.

But now I don't know, and to make matters worse, we lost our All-American starting LB Brevin Randle last week, who is no longer on the team.

This could be a SHSU blow out if our run defense has not improved.

Our offense is not capable of blowing out anybody at this point. We are minus our stud linebacker also...Markel Perry. Part of the issue with this team this year is that we are red shirting a lot of our best players so they will have an extra year in CUSA. I think it will be low-scoring and close.

One of the biggest travesties of Sam’s ill advised FBS transition. Hopefully SFA comes to Huntsville for a game at some point, it’d certainly bring more fans than any CUSA team would.

I know it’s lost the luster for some especially on the SFA side, but playing this game at NRG has been a big deal for the past 12 years. I’ve enjoyed it. It sucks some have soured on the rivalry.

Could be a fun game today. SFA is bad, so I don’t expect it to be.
