As far as attendance goes in FCS, are the majority of fans at games students and alumni, or "regular" people who happen to enjoy some football? In FBS I know they have large followings of people who never went to the school, but in FCS I would have to imagine that wouldn't really be true except for the really notable schools. So I would imagine FCS schools with larger attendance numbers would be schools with larger student bodies, with variations of course depending on the quality of the football those schools play.

I don't recall a whole lot of Spartanburg residents with Terrier stickers on their cars. Sort of a town and gown thing, I guess. I would venture that public universities, even those that aren't the "flagship" schools, would have a larger following among those with no "official' ties to the school.

That's what I would assume too. Wofford seems to have fans only that have direct connections to the school.

Also, for the sake of argument, remember that parents, siblings, and friends of current students, as well as prospective students and their families, faculty and staff and their families, and general friends of the school and its people are all in those stands, too.

I don't think a lot of people in the city of Spartanburg really relate to Wofford. Let's face it, there are a LOT of blue-collar Southerners in the area (the type of folk a lot of people might refer to as "rednecks", but I won't call them that- that see the school as a place for the kids of elitist white collar people, very few of which are from the area. I'm not saying their perception of Wofford is correct, I'm just saying that's what their perception is. They don't realize that a lot of people at Wofford are there on some kind of financial aid and/or scholorship. But for that reason, I don't think Wofford gets much fan support from the general Spartanburg public. And besides, many people in this area are too into Clemson or South Carolina football, high-school football, and NASCAR to bother looking at Wofford a whole lot.

Well, I am at all the games, and that's all that is really and truly important to me, the fact that I'm there supporting the team. And to be quite honest, we do pretty good attendancewise for a school of our size, anyway. People with Wofford connections travel long distances to attend our games, and that shows some fantastic loyalty to the school. And it's not just because we happen to be winning on the field right now...most of them would be in Gibbs if we were winless. Wofford is far from a fairweather, bandwagon kind of place.

We went out to dinner after the App/Wofford game, all in our ASU attire. Someone came up to my 12 year old and asked if he was a Steelers fan. Even after we said, no we were here for the App/Woff game, he kept trying to talk to us about the Steelers. It was like he had never heard of App or Wofford. xrotatehx

I found UC's by going to the .edu website and searched around in the alumni section (they had a breakdown by state, by county in Tennessee, and by foreign country)...most schools will have something like that on their website...if you can find it. :)

Yeah I saw that 100K number. Only I'm not in the Towson Alumni Association (Quarterback Club don't count) and I know a lot who aren't either. So that number is just Alumni members.
Anyway, ....
