Apparently, there used to be a trophy that this rivalry had back in the day and our good friend (known as BearkatPresident here and on KatFans) has made all sorts of effort to bring this trophy to reality. I'll try to get some pictures up here once they are available on KatFans.com or goBearkats.com...
SHSU, SFA to battle for Piney Woods trophy

Sam Houston State University is building on an already spirited competition between the Bearkats and Stephen F. Austin University by establishing a Battle of the Piney Woods trophy.
The SHSU Student Government Association, headed by president Chris-topher Whitaker, received a state Senate resolution on Aug. 28 allowing the new rivalry trophy after a two-month process.
Winning Trophies out of Palestine is making the trophy which cost $600.

You know, since some folks find Chief Caddo culturally insensitive and would like to see SFA/Northwestern stop exploiting him, I wonder how long it will be before the anti-gun lobby comes out and makes a statement about the insensitivity inherent to playing for a trophy which glamorizes guns (and violence?)

Wonder if that has anything to do with the last time the trophy stopped between SHSU and SFA...they used to have a trophy with guns on them. xnodx

When Sam Houston State and Stephen F. Austin take the field on Saturday in Nacogdoches, there will be more than pride on the line to the winner. This year, the winner of the annual “Battle of the Piney Woods” will have some hardware to show off as well.
A 21-pound solid cedar trophy will be at stake this season, thanks in large part to Sam Houston State Student Government Association President Chris Whitaker.
“Over the summer Kent Willis, the SFA president, wanted to put a wager on the game. I was looking for something that wasn’t too controversial. There are several alumni that remember us playing for a pair of Colt Walker Pistols in 1976. There was no trace of the pistols, so we wanted to get a trophy made out of pistols.”

What do they want to do...cover him up with a blanket or something?

Are those pistols real or carved? If carved, that's an incredible job xnodx
