Has officially retired.

He is one of the greatest to ever play the game of football.

No doubt about that. He will definately be in the Hall of Fame on the first vote. If not somethings screwy.

He may be the greatest NFL player ever to come from I-AA.

He has my vote Ralph. I am a huge Gannon fan and the UNI folks may want to put up Warner but Rice was far and away the best at his position for years. I remember reading his workout regimin 15 years ago and it blew me away. I am glad he has decided to leave on his terms. Rice entered the NFL in 1984. Compared to another I-AA receiver, TO, he also has something that is sadly lacking in the NFL these days. CLASS.

I think this is definitely the right move. Continuing to play was sort of embarassing for him IMO. You came, you had a fantastic career, now its time to go. Enjoy the finer things in life...walk around your gigantic house and try to discover rooms you've never been to, etc. :D

I don't think there is a close second. You could argue he is the greatest ever period.

Amen keys, I miss players like Rice and will even miss them more that he is gone. The type that shut up and let their skills on the field do their talking. He knew he was good but didn't talk about it, he didn't need to remind everyone how good he was on a daily basis, he showed it on the field. I wish he would bitch slap TO!
