I have a good idea for a replacement for Joe Torre.
His name is Joe Torre.

with Hank and Hal officially taking over the team this week, I think Torre's chances of staying increased dramatically.

And the next day...the story is the above reports are garbage.

Why do these NY papers even bother? Madden in the Daily News had Torre gone for sure, and his latest had all three FA (Posada, ARod, Rivera) as definitely staying and not testing the market. Riiiight, ARod's not going to opt out.

They can hire a potato to be placed on the bench and be the manager for all they want, however, if they can't put together a quality starting rotation and build up the bullpen the Yanks will be doing next year what they've done for the past 7 years - let an all-star caliber and huge wallet offense carry them through the year to the playoffs only to be ushered out somewhere along the way by a team with a better pitching staff. Joe Torre, as nice of a man as he is, can't be counted on to pitch in the big spots in the postseason.

If Torre stays Rivera and Posada almost guaranteed resign. If Torre is fired both will see whats out there in the market.
A Rod is gone. He is California working out the game plan with Boras.

The rotation could be good next year. It will be young too.
Wang
Hughes
Chamberlain
Kennedy?
Igawa (Im expecting him to show why he got all that money)
I think Pettite and Mussina are gone. Clemens will finally retire.

That rotation could be good, or that rotation could blow up. If they are planning on Hughes, Chamberlain and Kennedy all pitching the full season, they better watch out around the 150-200 IP mark in August and September.

That rotation is a huge unknown. Wang is steady and he'll be productive, but Hughes is a big unknown as his star dimmed a bit once he came back from injury. Chamberlain certainly has electric stuff, but we haven't seen him start yet so who's to say how good he'll do over 6-7 innings every 5 days, especially a few times through the league? Kennedy is a question mark, like you say, so hard to even say anything on either side about him. Igawa is a bust, plain and simple - a dumb signing after getting burned in not getting Dice-K (who is certainly not the stud they hoped he was but not a bad pick-up by any means). If I was the Yanks I'd hold onto Pettite as he's the only guy you can feel comfortable with pitching in the post season (well, Wang is fine, just have to pitch him at home on full rest). I agree, Mussina should be gone and Clemens clearly should be gone. But that's not a starting rotation you can feel confident will get it done next year, and as the other poster said, watch out for what could happen late in the year when they all hit the wall in terms of innings.

First I think, and a lot of experts think Matsuzaka could have the same kinda second season as Beckett did this year. There is a adjustment period.
I think Igawa is gonna have a goos second year. In the range of a good 4th starter.
I agree that theres no certainties with young pitchers but it has the potential to be a much better rotation then this year.
And yes the wall hitting can be very hard, just ask Matsuzaka.
