After being hammered by Hampton the past four years, Norfolk State didn't just win Saturday's Battle of the Bay.
The Spartans won it three times. The score that will go into the books is 20-19, and on a sparkling fall afternoon at Price Stadium, that meant Christmas came early for the overwhelming majority of the 27,756 fans who filled the stands with green, gold and plenty of noise.
It was the largest crowd to watch a game at Price since the inaugural game was played there in 1997.
"We BEAT Hampton!" screamed the public address announcer as the NSU band rumbled into another rendition of "We Are The Champions" one hour after the final seconds ticked off the clock.
The victory keeps Norfolk State (5-1, 4-0) atop the MEAC, tied with Delaware State. It is only the second NSU victory against Hampton (4-2, 3-2) since 1997 and its first ever against a ranked opponent. The three-time defending conference champs, ranked 18th in The Sports Network's poll, had beaten NSU by an average of 52-9 the past four years.

I wonder if NSU will crack the top 25? xrolleyesx Probably not; but that's cool. We are 5-1 overall, with a 4-0 record in the MEAC. My SPARTANS are finally starting to comPETE with the rest of the MEAC for a change!xthumbsupx
