Im a fan of #1 Northern Iowa Panthers!
Last season we were 7-4, with wins over two playoff teams (Ill State who lost in the second round, and Youngstown State who lost in the semis) as well as a win over a very solid SDSU, and a 1 point loss to Iowa State. I thought that was more impressive than 7-4 EIU (who hadnt beaten any teams with a winning record) and 7-4 Montana State (who's wins also wernt impressive). To be fair, we lost to a sub .500 Western Illinois team and D2 North Dakota (as well as a blowout loss @ playoff team Southern Illinois) so it can see where they passed us up. Anyway, this is why the scheduling issue is a touchey subject with me.
I also consider myself a fan of the PFL's own Drake Bullddogs, Des Moines is my hometown.
Thanks. I like your chances at the playoffs this year.xnodx

Oh, you mean the same UC Davis team that shutout Montana State 45-0 in Bozeman. The same Montana State team the made the play-offs and beat Furman? Yeah, that does sound average.xthumbsupx
So scholarship schools will give us respect? How about next year we play Northern Colorado, Austin Peay, VMI, Bethune-Cookman, Savannah State, Georegetown, Indiana State, Idaho State.... shall I keep listing these "worthy" scholarship schools. It will be a pretty long list.
Its also the same Montana State team that lost to D2 Chadron State (or however you spell it). The transitive property doesnt work in sports.
If someone played that schedule they too would get no respect. Although, thats STILL probably better than the ones you're playing.

I wasn't using any kind of transitive property. I was saying UC Davis was more than Average last year, and we played them at home where they play their best. I was also just pointing out that scholarships don't mean crap.

No, not the 16 richest, the 16 best. Which I am not saying you don't have an argument for being. But until you start playing better oppenents than Drake, Dayton and UC-Davis your argument isn't getting any stronger. No matter how much you beat Drake or Dayton by. Stop spending your money to go to Yale and Monmouth and start spending your money to go to UNI, Delaware, New Hampshire. If you win then you get in the playoffs. Not only that but if you start winning you start gaining demand, when you get demand people will then start scheduling home and homes with you. Then and only then can you claim WITHOUT A DOUBT that you are one of the 16 best. What San Diego needs to do is very very simple. The just are choosing not to do what they need. This, and only this is why they will be left out again this November at 11-0. Thats right, I think you will be Davis handily, but it will not be enough.
So are you juping on the San Diego bandwagon like you said you would in the Drake @ San Diego thread? You can see my response to your comments in there if you'd like.xthumbsupx

Keep in mind the USD faithful will never act on your incredible advise. Instead they will continue their never ending whine that they beat some loser school by 40+ so they are entitled to be in the playoffs. This is the same never ending rant they engaged in last year.
USD was informed last year their Strength of Schedule was a problem. Did their AD make ANY effort to improve their situation???? NO!!!!!
This is a school who wants to achieve football success with mirrors and illusions. UC DAVIS a decent but no world beater I-AA team beat this team of posers last year. That should be enough for any knowledgeable fan of the FCS.
The fact that USD chose to not schedule tough OOC teams speaks volumes about their real ambitions. USD wants to pressure the selection committee with their totally weak schedule and high win count to get a bid for the playoffs as opposed to some really tough and battle tested teams.
This was Harbaugh's formula. It appears the school has not changed it's strategy.
They will whine forever. We need to get used to it. xnodx xnodx xnodx xnodx xnodx xnodx

Yeah, because we have control over the schedule. The USD faithful choose to schedule the patsies because that is what we like to do. You guys act like it's the fans that make the schedule. How many fans in here have drawn up a contract to schedule a game?

That's the key word..... I have made a small list of teams (not including all that apply to this comment) that show why it is usually, but not a definite.

I never said they did. But they USUALLY mean theyre better than MOST non schollies. A team playing 10 schollies is going to have a tougher schedule than a team playing 2 schollies 99.999% of the time.

You were talking about if USD had played all scholarship schools in their OOC schedule they would be getting more respect, and I was showing you a bunch of examples that would pove that otherwise.

As a USD alum and player from the early days of 1-AA membership, I cheer on USD and the success they are currently having. I wish they could be playing and beating better opponents and have sent e-mails to the USD AD stating that an upward movement would be inline with the trend across the campus in its push towards better academics and athletics. As a fan I would like to see them take on the challenge that many of the scholarship athletic teams are taking on. I would like to see the recognition that the academic programs are receiving be applied to all aspects of the university. However, as many have stated on this board, football at USD will not achieve that till the schedule is upgraded. If the on the field success continues next year and Caragher proves to be a solid coach, then I believe the schedules will continue to improve. However, as the schedule is currently soft, I will cheer on the team as they do their best each week to show their talent regardless of the policies that the athletic director has chosen to follow.

I use to work in the athletic department when I went to school there, so I still talk to a few people. I am always mentioning the scheduling issues with them. I think the AD knows, but we will have to see if he does something about it in the future. I suggest we keep riding the AD about the schedule and jumping to the GWFC (which would make way more sense to be in geographically).

You're problems would be solved by that move and add another team or two to make an auto bid conference with some real teeth.

I am on. I meant what I said. If SD goes 11-0 they should be in the playoffs. I truly mean that. They put approximately the same beating on Drake that the NUMBER ONE TEAM IN THE COUNTRY DID! Drake is a team that would beat and has beaten teams, thats right I said it, teamSSSS in the gateway. San Diego proved that they don't even belong on the same field with them, much like Northern Iowa did. San Diego SHOULD be in the playoffs at 11-0. Don't make me eat my words and go losing to UC Davis. 11-0 gets them in. It should any way.
