Forgot to put this up yesterday but preseason polls are starting to pop up across the FCS with media days kicking off this week. I'll add to this as the conferences release them since it usually helps me with my preseason AGS Poll which is also going to be opening up later this week and releasing on August 1st.

Top 3 each get a Top 8 Playoff Seed & next 4 get At-Large bids?

Surprised to see Monmouth that low... looks like folks in the CAA expect them to struggle with the step up in leagues.

Monmouth is a total wildcard here, they just need to prove themselves

But besides, who has Monmouth ever beat?

Monmouth just unknown to most in the league. Nova gets the nod based on last year but they lost a lot and we'll have to see how their QB play looks. Too many unknowns with new QBs and portal changes to accurately predict the strength in the CAA right now. I see the top six in this poll as a pretty good guess on the better teams.

Well, Kennesaw St but we all know how polarizing the hooters are. You could say the same thing about URI and they're picked 3rd. Something tells me that if the Rams do finish 3rd or better it'll be another down year for the CAA.

Totally agree on Rhode Island when you say if they finish third it means down year for CAA

They did beat Nova in spring ball but would need to be hitting on all cylinders to finish third, I would say no higher than 5th

Blowing out Kennesaw in 2019 and then the fake 2020 season was impressive and caused a lot of people to pay attention to them. They followed that up with a good showing against Sam Houston.

Long gone are the days when the CAA was one of the top two conferences.

Looks like a lot of lazy voting. As is usual with most of these preseason polls for every conference. Default is to look backwards. Safe bet for most.

I think we all know how fluky the spring season was. Hooty does not recognize it as Legitimate football competition.

It’s obvious that the FCS respects the KSU brand significantly more than Monmouth. Just look at the polls, KSU is at the top of our preseason poll, yet Monmouth was ranked 10th in the CAA. How embarrassing…

Ha! Hooty wonders at the omission of the Owls baseball team that won the ASUN tournament this spring.

Hooty will admit the Owls adventure into the ASUN has not gone as expected. However, the ASUN media days were 15 minutes away from campus at the Braves complex. It’s a convenient fit for the program. But it would be nice if the ASUN stabilized soon.

Long time coach Mike Ayers retired and the new coach Josh Conklin tried to install a new offense, that didn't work well, then I think he sort of lost the team after he has applied on every DC position that's opened up in the past two years.

I know, right!

The data points we have are the data points we have and until we get more, newer data points that inform us directly, FUBeAR just doesn’t understand why anyone tries to deny this direct information or tries to find less direct data to support a narrative contrary to the info that our direct data provides.

Another example would be SoCon vs. Big Sky.

Welp, we have Chattanooga, the 3rd place SoCon Team and they played Weber a few years back and we can, see in this thread, that Weber is the 4th best Team in the Big Sky. We all know the outcome of their most recent matchup - Chatt was up a bunch to nothing at halftime and coasted to an easy win by 4 scores. So, by this most recent SoCon vs. Big Sky matchup result, we can conclude, accurately, that the Top 3 or 4 Teams in the SoCon are about 3 or 4 scores better than the Top 3 or 4 Teams in the Big Sky.

Any other claim is just conjecture and not driven by empirical results. Right?

Well I did happen to watch some of the VMI at Cornell (you saw that right the Ivy League medical school) game last year and VMI was getting their vitals handed to em. Granted they were able to pull it out 31-21.

And then VMI whips Mercer ... are you ready for this... 45-7

based on FuBeAR logic, one can only assume that Mercer would be the worst team in the Ivy League. No Ivies or Mercer in the playoffs

Bulletin board material in Bozeman???
Interesting that the top 3 teams in the coaches poll finished in reverse order of first place votes received. In all honesty, the Big Sky title most likely goes through one of those three teams.

That’s an interesting point, especially on Montana state receiving 5 1st Pl. votes but third in the poll. It tells me there is definitely more than one coach that thinks Montana St is gonna flop this year.

No surprise that Davidson got the nod, but USD has the best athletes, and Dayton has a favorable schedule.

With MoST and SIU now competing at much higher level, and little or no drop off elsewhere .. except maybe my Redbirds ... wow, the top 6 or 7 are loaded. And I happen to think my Redbirds will e competing win middle tier again this year after 2 down years. I can see 6th or 7th for my Redbirds given what I know is coming back on defense, and RB group, plus a credible new OC and FBS transfer QB. There are going to be 7 to 8 very tough MVFC team this fall .. a war of attrition is going to unfold. It looks as tough but deeper than 2014-15.

Is Jacksonville State even eligible to win the ASUN? Considering their move to FBS? I know they are ineligible for postseason being a transition year, so they probably can win their conference, but it is interesting that the team transitioning to FBS isn't even picked to win their respective conference.

ASUN (https://asunsports.org/sports/fball/2022-23/releases/20220719hjy33c)

T2. Central Arkansas (1) 25

4. Jacksonville State 19

Tried to claim they redshirted everyone, but the fact is they just weren’t as good as Furman, Chatt, Samford, and Wofford…even with the 22 more scholarships they had to use that season.

JaxState was 5-6 last year. Changing a letter in their subdivision designation is not going to win any Football games for them this season.

ASUN (https://asunsports.org/sports/fball/2022-23/releases/20220719hjy33c)

That's a real confusing situation. I'm not sure if the ASUN will even declare a champion this year since they're doing the partnership with the WAC again this year for one autobid between the two leagues. I'm sure JSU isn't eligible for that autobid (neither is SHSU). I would assume, like last year, they'll just have the standings combined between the two leagues so not sure why they didn't put out a preseason poll that included teams for both leagues like they did last year... whatever floats your boat I guess. Maybe they are declaring an ASUN (and WAC) champ separately this year based on records only amongst ASUN teams but that wouldn't necessarily translate to the autobid anyway since that could be taken by a WAC team and those standings would include games against WAC opponents.

Nope - just another overlooked example of the overall strength of the SoCon, which has been ‘punished’ by polls and computer rankings ever since these 2 “pretty good” (by SoCon standards) Teams moved to FBS.
