After 12 years and last nights loss, it looks like it might be the end for NY Yankee Joe Torre.

Some things just have to come to an end. I hate the Yankees, but Joe Torre is a classy guy.

So who's it going to be? Don Mattingly? Joe Girardi? Tony Larussa?

I really wish there was a way to end the George Steinbrenner era.
The worst thing Joe did this year was bring the Yankees back and get them in the playoffs, it allowed that blowhard owner to get back on the stage.

My money's still on Torre retiring, even if the Yankees announce they won't renew his contract. 12 years is a long time in any job, especially one as high-pressure as managing the Yankees.

Tony LaRussa :pumpuke:

Steinbrenner is a big Mattingly fan. If he's really still calling the shots, Donnie Baseball manages the Yankees next year. Girardi, as a former Yankee himself, would have to be next on the list before Tony.

Joe Torre is a class guy, but it's time to move on. Several New York newspapers and TV stations are reporting that the Yankees are interested in La Russa. I would like to see Mattingly get the job, but he has no managerial experience. That was always the Yanks excuse for not giving the job to Willie Randolph.

I kinda figured they didn't give it to Randolph because, you know, Joe was still manager xeyebrowx

Hes not retiring, after the game he said hes not ready to go home and do nothing.

He will end up somewhere next year. Perhaps St. Louis.

Thats why I always figured Girardi was more likely then Mattingly. If they planned on giving Mattingly ther job, he would have been managing at AAA getting experience.

They've been priming Girardi for this job since he got canned by the Marlins.

The New York press can make up as much stuff as they want (as they always do) but there is NO way LaRussa could cut it New York. He hates the press enough as it is and wore out his welcome in a town that loves baseball. Not to mention there is no way his inflated ego could cooperate with the biggest ego of them all along with the rest of the inflated Yankee brass.

I'm actually surprised. The yankees organization is showing some class by waiting a few days, to release him and tell the press rather than just tossing him out the door after the last out. We'll just see if it lasts until after the world series or if he goes before.

Organization is meeting before the end of the week, and will have their decision shortly thereafter. They don't want this to drag out, and there's plenty of other things to do in the offseason for them to just leave Torre twisting in the wind for a month.
