Comegy was just responding to a reporter's question about going to SU.
He has never been involved in a SU/JSU game at Mumford.
All Comegy did was repeat what JSU People was shooting in his ear.
Hell, it ain't like it's been a secert.
He just said it out loud what people here has been saying for decades, not knowing the backlash it would causes between these 2 crazy wild arse fanbases.
On the real, mofo's been saying that about going to SU up here since W.C. Gorden was coach.
I remember my freshman year in the Boom when we were about to play SU.
Right or Wrong, everybody that was in hearing distance was warning us about the atmosphere at Mumford.
Heck, that's the topic of conversation every year the week of going to Mumford.
It's nothing new.
When ya'll moved the game to the Superdome those 4 trips, people up here was dancing in the street's. xlolx

Jackson State coach: Many fans won't come to 'hostile' Southern U
Eds: INSERTS comment from JSU president in new 11-13 grafs;. Moving
on general news and sports services.
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- The "hostile" atmosphere in and around
the stadium at Southern will keep many Jackson State fans away from
Saturday's game, coach Rick Comegy says.
"A lot of people are not taking their families," said Comegy,
a second-year coach whose Tigers (3-2, 3-0 SWAC) last played
Southern (5-1, 3-1) in A.W. Mumford Stadium in 2005. Three other
games this decade were in the Superdome.
Comegy wouldn't describe any specific incident he'd heard of.
"My understanding is, it's always been a hostile situation when we
get down there," he said.
Southern coach Pete Richardson said, "I'm quite sure there's
not going to be anything happening."
"We welcome all of our visiting teams," said Southern's
athletic director, Greg LaFleur.
Two games at Southern between the teams have been marred by
third-quarter gunfire, and there has been a shooting outside the
stadium in each of the last two years during or after games against
other teams. None involved opposing fans.
In 1990, one man shot another over a dice game in the West
stands. That sent that side of the stadium into bedlam.
During the 1996 Jackson State game, a Southern University police
officer fired into the air to break up a brawl in the area between
the stadium and the tennis courts. Players, coaches and officials
hit the ground and the game was halted in the third quarter.
During the 2005 homecoming against Alabama A&M, two feuding
groups crossed paths near a crowd of tailgaters, and three people
were hit by bullets. During last year's season-opener against
Mississippi Valley State, a parking lot guard shot and killed a
Southern fan during an argument about a parking space.
After the 2006 shooting Southern closed the general area in
which both shootings occurred, south of the stadium, to tailgaters,
covered the fence with blue tarps to avert loiterers, and moved
games back an hour, to 7 p.m.
In a statement Tuesday, Jackson State President Ronald Mason Jr.
acknowledged the healthy rivalry between the teams and said they
look forward to Saturday's matchup.
"Coach Comegy never intended for his comments to suggest in any
way that the atmosphere at Southern football games is unsafe,"
Mason said. "He has never experienced the excitement and intensity
of playing in Baton Rouge.
"Our allotment of tickets sold out in half a day, so it is
clear that Tiger fans will be there."
LaFleur said parking might be the only problem for visiting
fans, since all the parking near the stadium is reserved and there
are few roads into campus.
"We're excited about having Jackson State come, because they
have a huge following," Richardson said.
The game has traditionally been one of the biggest draws in
either black college football or Football Championship Subdivision
football. Games at Jackson State's Memorial Stadium traditionally
draw 50,000 to 60,000.

Jackson State coach reprimanded for comments
By JOSEPH SCHIEFELBEIN
Advocate sportswriter
Published: Oct 10, 2007 - UPDATED: 6:40 p.m.
The Southwestern Athletic Conference on Wednesday reprimanded Jackson State coach Rick Comegy for his comments Monday during the league’s football teleconference.
A news release issued by the SWAC office said the reprimand does not include a suspension, but that "future incidents could result in a fine and/or suspension from athletic competition."
Comegy, on Monday, termed the environment at Southern‘s A.W. Mumford Stadium as "hostile" and said many of his team’s fans "are not taking their families" to the football game. Southern and Jackson State play here Saturday at 6 p.m.
On Tuesday, Southern University Board Member Tony Clayton said he called SWAC Interim Commissioner Duer Sharp and asked for Comegy’s comments to be investigated and action taken against Comegy, including a suspension.

Gunfire marred two previous Jackson State games at Southern.
In the third quarter of the 1996 game, a Southern University police officer fired a shot into the air to break up a brawl outside the stadium between the stadium and the tennis courts. The game was halted in the third quarter, with players, coaches and officials hitting the ground.
During the third quarter of the 1990 game, a 20-year-old man was shot in the West stands after an altercation stemming from a dice game. That sent that side of the stadium into bedlam.
In each of the last two seasons, Southern has had a shooting incident outside the stadium.
In September last season, at a private parking lot across the street from Mumford Stadium, 59-year-old Freddie Jackson was shot and killed. Mississippi Valley State was the visiting team for the season opener.
And in 2005, at the homecoming game with Alabama A&M, shots were fired into a crowd of tailgaters south of the stadium. Bullets struck three, including a female Southern student.
....
Let's not forget the NCCU football team was robbed while playing a game at Mudford in 2006.

A lot of the violence that has occurred actually had nothing to do with the game and I don't think even then it was between rival fans. Granted there was once an incident where a fight broke out in the stands but that was over a dice game between two fools who "went there with it". The other time was a police officer firing a shot in the air to break up a fight between some rowdies who had come over with no intent of going to the game..and the most recent one was an idiot contract security person who shot someone for asking about parking. It has been proven that it was the act of an unstable person that the contracting security firm (not SU) was guilty of. Southern gets blamed for some things that happens outside of their control... to their credit they have beefed up the presence of Law Enforcement.
But it isn't a war zone...and most of the hostility (violence) occurs between people unrelated to the game. HOWEVER, I would not recommend talking shiit to the wrong person. I talk a lot of Biggity talk at the games but it's with folk that I know and I've been living here for 28 years. Wouldn't recommend getting in an exchange with someone liquored up that you really don't know. xnonox

The fact that has been lost in all the non-sense is COMEGY HIMSELF didn't "say" anything.
A reporter asked him what he KNEW about going to SU and he responded with WHAT HE HEARD about going to SU.
If you go back and read the article I highlighted on page 2 of this thread, you will see at the end he said "I don't know why that would be" in response to people telling him they were not taking their families, etc.
