Apps started off slow in the 1st, but kicked it into high gear in the 2nd. The most telling stat in the "0" on the scoreboard after the 1st quarter. Defense showed up and made big stops. Not the level of last year but it's getting better.

I hope we start Trey and see if we can handle GSU without Edwards to give Armanti another week to further heal.
If Trey does fine, then leave him in unless the game gets into jeopardy.xeyebrowx

I know I'm not an App. fan but I figured I'd throw my two cents in here. It seems risky to try and bring in Armanti if he is not healthy. If Trey is doing poorly will a not 100% Armanti do better? Armanti will have not played in awhile and could re injure himself again. There are a lot of questions up in the air right now about Armanti, all I can say is I wish him the best and hope he plays soon.

Yep. Spot on. However, I think a healthy albeit rusty AE is still one of the best in the FCS.
He led us to our greatest (at least most glamorous) wins in not only ASU history but college football in general.
The team chemistry has been formed around him.
I just want to see him 110% before he has to step on the field again.xthumbsupx

I'll tell you one thing, imo, that kid has earned every dime of the small amount of scholarship money he gets. He has made Julian a more successful kicker. We don't have many bad snaps, but Hunter has turned a lot of off center snaps into perfect placements. I think back to the Michigan game and the pressure on that kid during the winning FG. I think he jumped 10 feet in the air after it went through.

That is the $64,000 question. Trey is playing at a very high level and we are getting excellent offensive production. I hope people noticed we didn't run many options today. Trey is a bit banged up himself and the experiment with CoCo worked out well (albeit was against a whipped & tired defense). The staff knows the shelf isn't empty if Trey happens to go down.

I'd leave Trey in myself and redshirt Armanti. CoCo can come in if neccesary and Armanti can ger himself fully healed. I know Moore said Armanti could go if possible but he said that against L-R and NAU and then he was VERY rusty for Wofford and hurt that shoulder rather easily. Trey's clicking with the offense and with a very capable backup in CoCo, I'd go on the side of caution and give Armanti a medical redshirt.
I'm not saying Trey is better for our offense than Armanti, but with the cards we have right now, I'm confident we can go the distance with Trey and save Armanti for three healthy years after this instead of two years with a possibility of a long term problem if he comes back too early again.

Like many of the other App Faithful on this board, I am also a bit torn over who should be the QB. One thing for sure is that I am glad that is not a decision that I get to make. I am just glad that we are clicking with Trey in there. He has done everything asked of him and more. We are fortunate to have him. I guess it still begs the age old football question.... If your starter goes down with an injury and he was playing well and the back-up comes in and also plays well, who do you start. Like I said.... I'm glad I'm not in that situation.xtwocentsx

If he can play without further injury this year and App keeps winning then I think he will. Most coaches react in the present rather than the future.
If he is to be hardshiped he better not dress out because in the heat of the moment he may be inserted... lol
BTW App loses 3 studs on the OL next year. That may figure into the equation.

It is my understanding that the missed games due to injury have to happen early in the season. If that is true, even if he doesn't play in another game, he may have already exhausted his option even though he hasn't taken snaps in but 2 games.

Unfortunately we'll need our best players on the field the rest of the way:
1. Everybody still gunning for us
2. Furman, GSU, WCU even, Citadel, etc aren't Gardner-Webbs.
3. Aramnti is one cheap shot away form season ending injury.
The questions become:
1. Is a less than 100% Armanti better for us than a 100% Trey?
2. Will the risk of AE re-injuring his shoulder be worth the use of him in the games
3. CoCo's inexperience equals Armantis' rust.

The heat of the moment thing is not exactly true in most cases. The staff usually talks all week about exactly what circumstance would warrant the risk. I'm sure it has been hashed and rehashed ad finitum by now.

The nice thing about the GWU game was that despite 3 OL starters being out, the OL still played pretty well. Those returning next year:
Mario Acitelli - All Socon performer at left tackle
Jon Bieschke - Returning starter at right tackle
Brett Irvin - Started against Michigan, takes over for Scott Suttle
Pat Mills - Key reserve this year as redshirt freshman
Jacob Newton - Key reserve backing up Kerry Brown this year
Brad Coley - Logging good minutes this year in backup role
Daniel Kilgore - Redshirt freshman started vs GWU
Nick Sloan - Redshirt freshman
Corbett Harris - Redshirt freshman
David Guy - Redshirt freshman
Orry Frye - True freshman being redshirted
Matt Ruff - True freshman being redshirted
I expect we'll see a few OL in next year's recruiting class. Critical need will be building depth at center behind Brett Irvin.

Two were out. Holt moved to right tackle.
three offensive tackles – Mario Acitelli (ankle), Jonathan Bieschke (knee) and Pat Mills (ankle) sat out due to injuries … in their stead, Brad Coley made his third start at left tackle, John Holt moved over from his right guard position to right tackle and Daniel Kilgore made his first-career start at right guard.

I hope so. I hope they step up.
I think the hardest spots to replace will be at guard and safety.

I think the hardest spots to replace will be at guard and safety. We may have a few hiccups there as replacements develop.
That is why I think the emphasis with AE will be to try to win now.

Our offense has put up 34, 48, 34, 31, 49, 45 in our games thus far. It may just be me, but there's no apparent affect on Trey being the man gettin' the snap. Our offense is more than fine. The defense has allowed 42 and 32 in our only conference games so far. If you wanna talk about something let's talk about that. (32,7,21,7 other 4 games) As far as Armanti goes, if possible, a medical red-shirt would be great so we have him for the next 3 years!

BTW, Obviously I'm a new guy on here. I just wanted to say I've been reading the posts on this website for a while and I want to thank all of the Mountaineer fans for their integrity. I was fortunate enough to get a school-paid trip to Michigan and the most impressive thing there was the Michgan fans. There's nothing better than class and true ASU fans have it. So, Thank You. GO APPS!

Man, you need to chill. I have seen you do this crap twice now. Being a music major does not = Q. In fact, the music dept. is a great way to meet women.
With all due respect, how about limiting your comments to something you know something about?

I do believe Citdog has on more than one occasion implied that anyone in a marching band is a homosexual. That is what he means. I am sure he will correct me if I am wrong in my interpretation of his postings.

He's obviously never seen the App band. There are more than a few good looking girls in that band. I've only known two, but neither are bad looking and they all had good looking friends.

I was thinking that same thing. IMHO, if the offense puts up more than 28 points, it has done all that can reasonably be expected. If the team then loses, it's the defense that needs to be tightened. I agree that if the defense can improve then ASU will be tough come the playoffs. From what I have seen, the defense is getting better each game.
And, further, I would look seriously at a medical red-shirt for AE.
Welcome to AGS! As you will find, there are some posters who are very knowledgeable about FCS football. And, then there are others.

I always thought the "Q...." thing was low rent. The Citadel is a better place because of the efforts of both your bands. I know some cadets in other companies think it's funny, but it's just plain stupid in my opinion.

It's too late to redshirt Armanti. Plus, he'll be playing again this year.
The defense is starting to become better. Washington is emerging and I love the move of Tharrington to DT. Black Saturday will be a good test to see how we can measure up against Jayson Foster.

From what I understand about the medical redshirt rule, it is not too late. AE has played in only 2 games this year. One more snap and it will be too late. But it appears Coach Moore intends to play him soon.
I agree about the defense. My prediction for Black Saturday: Jayson will have a tough day.

3 games is only part of the rule. Playing a game late in the season trumps all that. He would be ineligible.
