How can a program not have a coach when practice begins next week? This team is going to take a beating in a schedule that includes numerous money games. Recruiting is off to no start at all -- early signing is November 14th.
Even if they hired a coach in the next few days, is there any way to get a staff together before the practices kick off? Not sure if there is. Seems rough.

TSU still searching for basketball coach
As season nears, players make best of it until post filled

Nine days from now, the Texas Southern men's basketball team will step on to the HB&C Arena court and begin fall practice.
Perhaps by then, the Tigers will have a head coach in place.
Finding a replacement for Ronnie Courtney, who was fired in July, has been a slow task for the school, which has left the eight scholarship players on campus to bond together.

Right after I posted this...read this from SWACPage...though, I'm a little confused why they are pointing people to their athletic web site in the release. No news of this is on there, no schedule listed for MBB. No nothing...?

Moreland Named Interim Basketball Coach at TSU
Houston, TX— Robert Moreland was named Interim Coach of the TSU Men’s basketball team today by Interim President J. Timothy Boddie, Jr. Moreland who currently serves as Assistant Provost for Athletic Enhancement will coach the team for the 2007 season. He follows Ronnie Courtney whose contract expired earlier this year. “We felt it was important to have a coach on board as expeditiously as possible, at the same time, we realized it was too important of a decision to rush. Having Coach Moreland assume the Interim role allows us time to make a thoughtful search for a permanent coach,” stated President Boddie.
Moreland has a long storied history with TSU Athletics. He remains the winningest coach in TSU basketball history having coached the men’s basketball team for 26 years. As coach, Moreland coached the Tigers to one national championship, ten SWAC championships, made three NCAA appearances and produced two SWAC Hall of Fame inductees. “I am excited to be back at the helm of TSU Men’s basketball. I have dedicated my career to TSU athletics because of my love for the program and my care and concern for our student athletes. This is a great opportunity for me to help the university as it transitions to a permanent coach.” Coach Moreland will be inducted into the SWAC Hall of Fame on December 13, 2007 in Birmingham, Alabama.
“Coach Moreland is a welcome and familiar face among both our student athletes and our alumni and we are looking forward to a dynamic season of TSU basketball,” added Athletic Director Alois Blackwell. Practice will begin on October 13, 2007 and the TSU Tigers will face Texas A&M at Corpus Christi on November 10, 2007.
For media interviews with Coach Moreland, please contact Rodney Bush at 713-313-6829. Visit TSU Athletics at www.tsu.edu/athletics

Texas Southern has a basketball team? Well I guess you could say the same thing about Texas State also, though.

TxSo schedule...opens with seven away games and has two home games (SHSU and UTEP). This is a brutal schedule...wonder if the SLC games are home-and-home. It's good for the SLC to play at TxSo because they get into Houston...SHSU should play TxSo in MBB yearly...
at A&M-Corpus Christi
at Texas - Arlington
at UT-El Paso
at Houston
at Kentucky
at Texas
at TCU
vs Sam Houston St
vs UT-El Paso

They're playing UTEP twice?
UTEP needed games and it gets them to come to Houston (which is good for recruiting -- especially for a team that has no TEXAS players!)...
UTEP can get wins over TxSo without a problem -- it works for them in many accounts...

There aren't many competitive games on that OOC schedule but they'll play better ball under Moreland.
