McNeese State Sweeps SLC Football Player of the Week Awards
FRISCO -- McNeese State has swept the Southland Conference football player of the week awards after a 31-7 win over South Dakota. Carlese Franklin (offense), Kody Knox (defense) and Blake Bercegeay (special teams) have been named after their efforts in helping the Cowboys to a 4-0 record entering Southland Conference play this week. Following is a look at their performances against the Coyotes.
OFFENSE
CARLESE FRANKLIN, McNeese State, Sr., WR, 5-11, 180, Kentwood, La.
Franklin led all receivers in a 31-7 win over South Dakota with seven catches for 116 yards. He had a long of 30 yards as it was the first time for a McNeese receiver to catch passes for 100 yards this season. Franklin also ran the ball three times for 15 yards, returned two punts for 11 and one kickoff for 23. He had 165 all-purpose yards as the Cowboys climbed to 4-0.
Honorable Mention: No other nominees.
DEFENSE
KODY KNOX, McNeese State, Sr., FS, 6-3, 205, Houston, Texas
Knox was credited with six tackles, one for a loss of two yards, and he also forced a fumble as the Cowboys held South Dakota to only one touchdown.
Honorable Mention: No other nominees.
SPECIAL TEAMS
BLAKE BERCEGEAY, McNeese State, Jr., K, 6-2, 178, Gonzales, La.
Bercegeay was solid as both punter and kicker in the Cowboys win over South Dakota. He hit all four extra points, was successful on his only field goal attempt (33 yards) and punted three times for a 38.7 average. His long punt was a 58-yard effort and he had one downed inside the Coyotes’ 20-yard line.
