I'm proudly unveiling my new avatar for the Phightin's playoff run. I'll return to my favorite Red v Blue misfit after the season is over.
Well, I can't imagine how the Phillies can lose now that I've brought the visage of old "Five for one" to AGS. But what do you think?
For those wondering, "why in the hell did he pick Von Hayes?" Well, that's because I couldn't find a decent pick of Juan Samuel, Steve Jeltz or Lance Parrish to use. So here we are.
Note: I'm adding a link to his stats

Von Francis Hayes (born August 31 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/August_31), 1958 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1958) in Stockton, California (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stockton%2C_California)) was a Major League Baseball (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_League_Baseball) player from 1981 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1981) to 1992 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1992) for the Cleveland Indians (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleveland_Indians), Philadelphia Phillies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philadelphia_Phillies), and California Angels (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Los_Angeles_Angels_of_Anaheim). Hayes was originally acquired by the Phillies in a then-controversial and infamous "five-for-one" trade with the Indians in exchange for Manny Trillo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manny_Trillo), George Vukovich (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Vukovich), Jay Baller (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Jay_Baller&action=edit), Jerry Willard (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerry_Willard), and Julio Franco (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julio_Franco).

Like the avatar. I always liked Von "Purple" Hayes (I'm the one). It wasn't his fault they traded 5 guys for him.
Unlike Lance Parrish, who demanded a huge contract.

That a-hole told me to "F-Off kid" when I asked him for an autograph at a spring training game years ago. My least favorite Phillie of all time.

Pete Rose used to call Von Hayes "Five-For-One" based on the 1982 trade with the Indians which brought him to Philadelphia.

Ricky Bottalico refused to autograph a ball for my son in Fenway back in 1997 when we saw the Phils play the Sox. While it was during the game, we were sitting near the visitor's bullpen, another guy came over and handed a ball down to him with a $50 and Bottalico signed it....xnonono2x

I bet if you'd asked him for that SAME autograph about 7 years later, he'd have given it to you GLADLY, just because you cared that he was still in the game! xlolx xlolx xlolx xlolx xlolx xlolx

Sorry, Connie Mack Stadium was torn down before I was born. I'm referring to the stiffs who started for the Phillies in the mid to late 80's as Bill Giles idiot leadership destroyed a great franchise.

I grew up in South Jersey in the late 70's to early 80's. I love me some Phillies.
Boone, Bowa, Schmidt, Rose, The Bull, but I have to say, my favorite player on those teams was...

I loved Bake McBride as a kid. He sported the Oscar Gamble 'fro and, at the time, I liked his name. Looking back, I realize his name sounds like the president of the "preppy" fraternity from an 80's college flick.

I liked his name back then too. Not sure I identify the name with a preppy guy as more of a guy who would be seen with Snoop Dogg back stage.

Wait, you're not that old. I made a mistake. What I meant to say was that the Phils abandoned Connie Mack before I was born.
I was in diapers when it was torn down!
There, feel better? xthumbsupx

Anybody remember this guy?
http://www.baseball-almanac.com/players/pics/dickie_noles_autograph.jpg
He had a problem with drugs and alcohol which hampered his major league career. He got himself cleaned up and was (maybe still is) working as a substance abuse advisor for the Phillies. He also played in various adult baseball leagues in Delaware for a number of years. I had many at bats against him, usually not very successful ones. :)

That card reminded me of a Marty Bystrom card I saw once. Check out the "Worthless Baseball Card Collection" at Joe Sports Fan:
Joesportsfan.com's Worthless Baseball Card Collection (http://www.joesportsfan.com/cardCollection.php)
A number of Phillies pop up, and some guys who once played for the Phils, but the cards are from different teams. My favorite is the Steve Jeltz card.
