Hofstra and Montana too high again, but UR getting a little more respect in this poll. This poll also got Furman right.
Small gripe from a homer standpoint. WM is not a top 25 team right now, but no way Towson at 2-3 (0-3) should be recieving votes over WM 3-2 (1-1) with losses to UD and VT. If WM beats Villanova next week I would then expect us to crack the top 30 (26 - 30 range).

Wow, 9 points separating Montana and UNI despite better than 2 to 1 ratio in 1st place votes. Seems voters either had Montana #1 or not in the top 3.

How does Furman get votes? 1 win over a transition school and that is it? By the account, why shouldn't Western Carolina be getting votes too?
At least they finally got The Citadel where they should have been.

That is crazy how so many teams are still getting first place votes.
It would be nice if ADs would schedule some FCS power match ups in the preseason. I want to see UNI v Montana and SIU v App St. or Umass v NDSU. That would help settle some of these gripes.
USC finds time to visit Lincoln Neb and TCU finds time to play Texas why shouldn't we find time for matchups like that?

Well, first of all, you don't really see that many intersectional, bigtime games in FBS - for every USC at Nebraska you have 10 games against the Sun Belt. And as for our level, travel is a big issue, so you aren't going to have too many teams trekking cross country to play those games in the regular season. Besides, we at least have the playoffs to settle these differences - polls don't really matter when the champion is decided on the field. xpeacex

I won't say that I can explain it, but assuming you really wanted an answer, my guesses would be that 1) your opposition so far isn't considered to have been all that tough, either, 2) if I saw your results correctly you haven't really beat up on anybody, and 3) while it shouldn't play in, I think that name recognition based on historical performance is still a factor in these polls.

The "big time" BCS schools need to finish #1 and #2 (possibly #3) to have a chance at a "National Championship". Tough OOC games can help.
In FCS, an OOC loss (even to a great team like ASU, UNI, etc) could be enough to keep you out of the playoffs. You are better off playing a so-so OOC FCS team, so you can lose 2 (or 3) conference games and still go to the playoffs with a shot to win it all.

Although I would put the Citadel in the top 15-20, there is the problem of "who did you beat?"
Beating North Charleston Southern, The Webber Grill Company, and UTC doesn't impress people much. Your other game was a loss.
I can't explain, either, why a team that has 3 losses and only one win (against a D-2 team in its D-I exploratory year is getting votes in the same vacinity)
On the bright side, you won't have to worry about dropping out of the poll after next Saturday's loss.:D

FWIW, I have had the Griz ranked #5 from pre-season to now based on my need to see the OLine improve and the new QB Bergquist. So far this year Bergquist has lived up to potential and more, he is solid. The O Line is still 50-50 for me because the Griz can really move the ball between the 20's but struggled to put the ball in the endzone against Weber. That was more penalties rathern than lack of execution and the Griz D is a solid as they have been for 3 years. If this O can get going in conference they are legitimately a top 5 team, if not then 6-10 will be warranted.

Very true, This team seems to be able play Strong at home or on the road, but I truly don't see them #1 quite yet. If they come out and play every game like at CMU, I don't think many teams will stop them, but they have not been able to step up and play all 4qtrs with that intensity. If they can get by UC-Davis and Minnesota in the next month, then they should be #1.

NDSU's opponents have four D-I wins, including one beating another (someone had to win that game).
Hell, strapper, Ya'll don't have a D-I win, so why give your team so much credit as a strong team?
It could just as easily be argued that NDSU had a terrible game against a bad team, right?

NDSU is a top #5 team for sure. I could care less if they see #1 before the last weekend of the regular season. But if they go 11-0 or 10-1 and no one else compares to that at the end of the regular season then the Bison without question deserve the #1 ranking until the championship game is played and the real number #1 team is crowned(unless of course that team has a loss to NDSU in the regular season.:p )

NDSU's opponents have four D-I wins, including one beating another (someone had to win that game).
Hell, strapper, Ya'll don't have a D-I win, so why give your team so much credit as a strong team?
It could just as easily be argued that NDSU had a terrible game against a bad team, right?
;)
Our defense struggled to contain mobile and accurate passing QBs hopefully that is behind them for the rest of the season.

Very true, the reason I highlight this comment is because every game is different and to expect the same team to go out every week and be identical to their best performance is outlandish. I don't expect(and nor do many bison fans I s'pose) the Bison to go out and kill every one of there opponents by 30 odd points. There will be games when the Bison struggle to score TD's and settle for FGs and there will be games when the Bison kill themselves with Penalties and turnovers, but will find a way to win. No one will call them overrated and rightfully so, but I think the reason Montana is getting so much ***** is because we have not come out and completely dismantled a "decent" opponent. If the Griz can come out and flat out beat a good team, much of the "hate" will go away. I have nothing but respect for everyone who has posted their thoughts on the Griz for the past number of weeks and hope in the end the Griz live up to their lofty expectations.

Define "dismantling" and "decent". The only opponent we've struggled with was Weber. And that was because we killed ourselves with penalties. Everybody else BH was cycling in 2nd, 3rd and 4th stringers before halftime. Face it peems, the hate ain't going away. Ever. No matter what we do. We could beat EWU by 35 this weekend and it wouldn't matter---people are now convinced EWU is overrated because they lost last weekend. And besides, its more jealousy than hate. xwhistlex xwhistlex xwhistlex xwhistlex
