Okay, I know we've got a fair amount of Philly fans on this board and all I can say about last night is...what the f is going on??

12 sacks!!! Are you serious?? 12 sacks. And that's just when they got to him, he rarely had more than three steps to throw...

That, plus all the penalties and a late turnover were more than I could take. I might not watch again all year.

Winston Justice had one of the worst offensive line performances i have ever seen. He was so damm passive, he just stepped in the bucket all day and didnt even puch Unoumoura (spelling) with his hands once. He just turned his body and let him run right by, you have to stay square and punch him in the chest. They should cut his a$$

Umenyiora is a pretty solid defender. His being out of the first three games really put a damper on our pass rush, which was a major detriment to the defense. Westbrook was also a key injury for the Eagles as well. He kills the Giants, and Philly looked noticably troubled without him. He can keep a defense honest enough that the Giants wouldn't be able to blitz indescriminately like they were doing last night.

Big win for the Giants anyway :D

I got the impression that Justice was filling in on the line. Does he really get to play all that often?

I blame this on the play callling. The Eagles ran the ball 23 times, 4 of those were McNabb scrambles so they really only ran the ball 19 times. They averaged 5.8 yards per run play called.
They threw 31 times, were sacked 12 times and had 4 McNabb scrambles, in other words they attempted 47 passes. They averaged 1.7 yards per pass play called.
Also, Justice was over matched and they never adjusted and gave him help. Does Reid know that you are allowed 2 tight ends?

That's an excellent point. I can see giving him a chance early in the game, but after a quarter of that, he needed help. Badly.

It was his first start as he was filling in for the injured Tra/William Thomas. Justice was 2nd round pick two years ago, and many analysts thought he would be a 1st rounder that year. But wow was he ever overmatched.

There's a great book:
"The Blind Side" by Michael Lewis - it's about the Left Offensive Tackle who guards the Blind Side of the quarterback...

Anyway, it goes on to explain that in most cases the left offensive tackle is pitted against probably the most talented defensive player on the field, so it makes sense now days that the Left Tackle "get help"

Very few Left Tackles are good enough to "stand alone on their island" and hold of the single best defender on the field...

you can list on one had the left tackles who are... and most of them have $50 million dollar multi-year contracts (for a very good reason)
All Andy Reid needed to do was give the man some help....

Way too many injuries for the Birds (McNabb's not 100%, Westbrook out, Dawkins out, Thomas out, LJ Smith out, Sheppard out), unbelievably bad play calling (way too many passes, nothing to help the WR's get open, and leaving Winston Justice all alone to get schooled time and time again - just brutal to not make changes), and just a lackluster effort as well. Heck, the defense looked good, only gave up 2 scoring drives the whole night. The offense, on the other hand, is a disaster. It's hard to give the Giants any credit when the Eagles just looked so bad. The season could be a complete loss for the Birds - but hey, high draft pick next year at this rate!!! xoopsx

Dismal performance by Justice. As former Lafayette Offensive Coordinator (now Yale H.C.) Jack Siedlecki used to say in the booth (as I sat below him) "He's getting beaten like a Goddamn drum"! But the next sentence out of Jack's mouth would be "Sit him the hell down"! Why wasn't that done here??

Who're you going to put in?? The real problem was not helping him out. Sure we'd probably have one less receiver, but what good are receivers when they don't have time to run a five-yard out??

Also I looked at the stats this morning - actually pretty close EXCEPT for the lost fumble returned for TD, the sacks, and the penalties. Between sack and penalty yardage and the total yards for runs & passes the Eagles were MINUS 4 for the game!! A *****ty performance!! I could have gone to bed - and should have as I was tired after a LONG weekend in Hotlanta!

Anyone but Justice! (ABJ)..Well to be fair to him, he should have gotten help. The poor guy was just manhandled on national TV ("Hi Mom I'm on my ass again")..

My thoughts exactly. I was up until 4 in the morning working Saturday night/Sunday morning, but wanted to watch a great comeback.

Ya, NFL teams usually only activate 7-8 O-linemen for a game, so I dont really know who else could have played there. Actually Herrenmans is a pretty solid LT but he is the starting LG, so they would have of course had to bring in a new guard, and that new guard may have been just as terrible with only a small upgrade at LT. Also Correll Buckhalter was very confused on many protections. He flat out didnt block the blitzing LB on quite a few occasions. In most blocking schemes that is his guy--it was terrible-- that is a mistake that college freshman dont make.

Bad coaching, and an Offensive Line that collapsed faster than the French Army doomed the Eagles.

It's clear that McNabb lacks the mobility he's had in the past, yet the offense has not been tweeked enough to protect him as a pure pocket passer. Right now, McNabb would look 100 times better playing for the Bears. This what annoys me about Reid: He puts too much hope in McNabb. Instead of helping him with balanced play calling or more short passes (like the called for Garcia last year), he puts Donovan out there thinking, "He's my guy. He's gonna win it for us." The Eagles QB has been criminally misused by the coaching staff for years now. When McNabb has enough and says he wants out of Philly, I will not be able to blame him. Oh let's not forget the sub-standard receiving corps that he's been forced to work with most years.

But here's the frustrating stat:
13 points. That's all the Eagles D gave up. Just like in Green Bay or against Washington, they did their job, while the Offense failed to hold up their part of the bargain. I can see the Birds going 5-11 with a Defense that ranks in the Top 5 of most statistics.

Actually, the defense only gave up 10 points - 6 points were on the fumble return for a TD (missed XP).

Yes - the fumble return for a TD...Defense did NOT allow those points.

The eagles D is playing amazingly well with a banged up secondary. They are also giving up few points despite being on the field constantly with that anemic offense.

The Eagles consistently show they are not the same team without Westbrook.

Having both Thomas and Westbrook out was fatal. I was out earlier in the evening and heard they weren't playing, and thought right then Iggles would be lucky to win. Defense played very well and kept them within strikng range. Justice was taken to school so often it was scary. Surprised the coaches made no adjustments (at that were apparent) to give him help.
