Iowa State has ditched their cyclonic canary logo for something more simple. Starting in 2008, this logo will appear on ISU apparel, center of the football field, and center court.

Personally, I think it is way too simple. Definite downgrade to me, what are your thoughts?

i liked the old one, and typically i like a more "basic" logo but the new one is just boring.

I'm with you in liking the simple logos better. But I agree the old one is better. The old one did a good job in blending something creative while keeping it simple, it's pretty sharp. The new one is pretty hideous.

I forgot to add, I think I-State will make it too easy for people to get confused with the other I States. Idaho State, Indiana State, and Illinois State.

That's what I was thinking. Too many states that start with I. nad they are all in the same region too.

I have to agree...Nationally, my guess is there's a lot of Iowa/Idaho/Illinois/Indiana confusion, particularly when it comes to colleges. This logo doesn't do much to help with disambiguation.

That's a good-looking, classic graphic, even if it is a little flat. It seems like a poor choice for a primary identity element, though. It doesn't carry the Iowa State brand clearly enough.

The good thing about it is it's flexible - it can easily be adapted for greater clarity.

(kinda looks like a made-up college in a Disney movie, or one of those fake colege logos they put on kids clothes at Old Navy)

I agree with pretty much everything you said except that I reallllly don't like the old logo at all.... hard for me to describe but it looks too much like, well, a 'logo'... that didn't come out right. xconfusedx It's supposed to look like it's moving, but for me it doesn't achieve that. It's a bird that's also a cyclone and he's 'holding' the logo... just doesn't work.

BTW, did Iowa State not know that ketchup and mustard are not a good combo anywhere besides a burger or hot dog? This falls into the 'what were they thinking' category along with Virginia Tech's maroon and orange. xoopsx

BTW2... the "STATE" schools have a real identity problem in the first place. Michigan State, Penn State, NCState.... all think they are in fact "STATE"... now Iowa State wants in on the lack of real identity too? xconfusedx xsmhx

I actually think the new one is much better than that stupid bird caught in a tornado logo- WTH is that. I am not crazy about there new unis' however since I liked em better the first time as USC alreay wears those. What is with Iowa being unable to create there own football uni's. Iowa is a blatant knock-off of the Steelers and now Iowa Stata of USC.

PETA should be happy, getting rid of one more animal logo. ;)

xlolx xlolx xlolx xlolx I didn't think of that at first, but that's exactly right

I wonder if it would have been better to spell out "IOWA" behind the "State" rather than go with just the "I". At least something a little different.

I believe Indiana uses the large red I don't they. Originally I thought it had something to do with Indiana State.

I miss the blue

According to a ISU fan friend of mine, blue was never really part of the school colors until Coach McCarney came along....he wanted a COMPLETELY new look, and they got it.

Personally I really just two basic colors in uniforms (Furman's purple and white, for example) so I like that ISU is going back to gold and crimson. I thought the 1977 throwbacks they wore during the Iowa game this year were great.

The old logo was ridiculously stupid. In a lame attempt to characturize a cyclone, they produced a logo that looked like the illegitimate offspring of the Tasmanian Devil and the Arizona Cardinals mascot. They should have just used the old Plymouth Duster cartoon logo:
http://www.musclecarclub.com/musclecars/plymouth-duster/images/plymouth-duster-sticker-a.jpg

The old logo was clearly meant to sell merchandise, which was dumb. Clearly the people who chose the logo forgot that not matter how "cool" the cyclone looked, it was stil Iowa State.
After seeing the throwback jersey I State wore against Iowa a couple of weeks ago, I think the simpler "new" logo is better.
