Will he have to wear the monitor in the pokey?

Now, I think this is a trivial issue (the pot smoking thing), but, you would think he had enough sense to play it clean while waiting for his sentencing.

Dude....were talking about Vick....you remember....the dumba$$ who jeopardized a $130mil contract to finance his "homies" desire to perform animal cruelty so they could wager money.......you can't use the statement, "You would think he had enough sense....." when refering to Vick ever again.....he has now claimed the mantle of "poster child of those who sqander their money and talents" from Mike Tyson...he is an idiot and his name should always be prefaced with "You know that dumba$$, Michael Vick, blah blah......" in all conversation from this point forward......xcoffeex

Always amazing how many people still do drugs when they know they'll be drug tested. Vick isn't alone in being dumb in that regard.

When Mr. Vick made himself available for the NFL draft and was informed that he would be the #1 overall pick and accepted the position of NFL quarterback, in addition to the money and fame garnered from that position and subsequent contract with the Atlanta Falcons he accepted a code of conduct that his actions both on the field and in the community would not be detrimental to his employers and to an even greater degree made himself available as a role model for the youth of our country- and especially in the Atlanta area.

When Mr. Vick accepted endorsement money from corporations like Nike he agreed to a code of conduct that his actions both on the field and in the community would not be detrimental to the corporation he represented.

Mr. Vick has violated both the terms of his contract and his accepted responsibility as a role model to the youth of this country through his actions, both on the field and in the community. He will be judged by a jury of his peers for the crimes having to do with his dispicable dog fighting ring, but he has already been judged in the court of public opinion for being a dispicable human being.

In my opinion murderers, rapists, and child molesters are worse than him, but that's all. Other than those types of individuals he is the lowest form of life and deserves any and all of the punishment and scorn headed his way. The NFL, the Atlanta Falcons, and most of all our society is better off without him.

Here's the point...its not that he smoked some weed...its that he's awaiting sentencing and has been told he's subject to random checks...and yet he went ahead and lit up...

Remember his statements when he entered his plea...he's let folks down...he's learned...he's going to earn back the respect he lost...

Ok, can't he show a little restraint and lay off pot...yea, some folks here probably are tokeing...how many are awaiting sentencing on federal charges...

I'd love to light one up...but I have a security clearance and I'm subject to random testing...so I exercise restraint...

On a side note, get ready to find out how good Vick really was with this Falcon's season. The Falcon's are 0-3 right now and will be lucky if they can win 4 games this entire season. And the pundits just said he was overhyped because people think running quarterbacks are cool. xrolleyesx

The prosecutors have stated they would only seek a certain sentence while it is reported that the judge can accept that or go up or down on time...

This drug test will be part of the report to the judge...and might influence his decision...that might be considered newsworthy...

That I agree with. If it weren't for Vick, the Falcons wouldn't have made the playoffs and the NFC championship. If the owners had given him a decent line and some decent receivers to work with, they probably would have beat the Eagles in 2005.

Back to point. Is he stupid?

Now, I like Vick and hope he gets a second chance to play in the NFL (I think he should once he does his time), BUT...

This ain't the way to do it. My issue's not so much about smoking pot (which is a crime, by the way), but don't give me an impassioned plea about how you're going to move forward to better "Mike Vick the person, not Mike Vick the athlete" and how you want all the kids to know that you made bad choices and to learn from you and THEN smoke put when you know you're going to be tested and KNOW that it's going to hit the fan when you test positive.

I had a lot of respect for Vick after seeing his press conference (which appeared to be heartfelt). Now, it seems a little hollow.

Still think he deserves a second chance.

And here's his point.
When he made that deal and accepted the fact he fugged up, he didn't know he was going to have to go through another trial and have extra years put on him for a damm dog by some country bumpkin county DA.

He know it ain't over cause mofo's are gonna keep comming after him for a damm dog like he murdered 100 people.

Hell...................I would have used $100 of the 30 to 40 million I had banked to light up good stick of "purp" too. xlolx

Granted, the Surry County DA stuff is BS, but if he really wants a second chance, I don't think he can afford to be in F-it mode. It sucks, but that's the reality of his situation. If he was a carpenter, it would be different, I think.

After spending years in jail, do you HONESTLY THINK the NFL is gonna defy PETA and give Vick a job again.

Name 1 team that will risk PETA showing up outside their stadium with dead dog pictures acting a fool for what will be, AT LEAST, a 30 plus year old QB just out of jail.

Name 1 corperation that is gonna have VICK as a pitchman again going against the PETA nutt's and their supporters.

Vick's carear was over the day he took that plea.
With the country bumpkin taking him to trial, his carear is not only buried, but the concrete slab is being poured over his grave as we speak.

The corporations will not hire him back because:

1) he is a convicted felon; doesn't exactly portray the image most corp want for their product
2) he will be old news by the time he gets out of prison; what's he gonna endorse...soap on a rope?

NFL won't ban him, but a team probably won't take him because:

1) should they spend time teaching 30-something new offense for what,.. 2-3 years productivity or invest that time on someone coming out of college,
2) he embarrassed all NFL players; he has displayed no leadership skills in the past; he is selfish; he is a convicted felon out of the game for 1-2 years (Maurice Clarett?)

Let's not blame PETA for keeping Mike down.....Mike has done a pretty good job of keeping Mike down.....the PETA demostrations are the least of a corporation or NFL teams worries about Mike when he returns....

I don't think he's gonna spend YEARS in jail. I think 18 months, tops.

SOMEBODY will take a shot on him. Once this thing dies down (which I think will be around January), PETA will lose interest, I think (and hope). I also don't think that the Surry Co. stuff is going to result in much extra jail time.

If he stays in shape, an athlete like Vick could play to his late 30's. He'd have to prove himself, but he should have a few good years left in him.

He won't get any endorsements, but I'll bet he gets a back-up job (if he's lucky he'll be backing up Rex Grossman) and works way back onto the field. He could also escape the PETA/Humane Society stigma by partnering with them in some campaigns, too.

He's got a much better chance of the above happening if he walks the straight and narrow until he gets his chance. Then again, look at Ricky Williams...

That said, there's a ton of "I thinks" up there. So, I reserve the right to be completely wrong.

My complaint is not really with PETA in general or the FED's.
Do I think PETA is a bunch of crazy, high strung clowns.........YES.
Do I think the FED's did this because of who Vick was after refusing to prosecute other dog fighting trials...................YES.

Everybody talks about how Vick might be hired by another team to come and play for them when he gets out of jail. But let's think about this: if Vick was just another guy on the street, would he get hired by anybody when got out of jail? Hell no he wouldn't!!! If Vick gets a second chance, I'd bet we'll see some pretty P.O'ed people talking to the commish.

People get hired after going to jail all the time. Otherwise, we'd have a crap load of unemployed people (oh, wait, we do, but it's not because they've been to jail).

My one example in all of this has been Leonard Little. His rookie year he killed someone in a DWI. He was suspended eight games and back in the league. To me that sets a precedent that the league should follow with Vick.

You have to remember who they have now at QB (Harrington). I don't think anyone thinks that Harrington is a better QB than Vick.

But see the Matt Schaub trade. Houston is now 2-1 after going 6-10 last year. How will the Atlanta fans welcome him this week and how would the Falcons be with Schaub as QB? Answer to the first - this weekend, to the second - never.

Under the old regime I agree, but this is the Goodell era of if you commit a crime (or are accused of it in certain circumstances), the book will be thrown at you and you get a long suspension. If you just break one of the NFL rules, no suspension but big fine (see Belichik)

Note that I think once he serves his time, if Goodell wants to suspend him for a few games for disrespecting the NFL, I have no problem with that but I think he should be able to play again.

There's no question that it's a new regime, and I expect a harsher penalty, but I find it odd that people other than Goodell would now act righteous and indignant if Vick gets to play again (obviously not yourself).

I have to say living here in Atlanta I have seen the many differing opinions on the Michael Vick situation. I agree that what he did was wrong and he should be punished...like most of you I feel that 18 months is about right if not even a little less....and I am a huge dog homer! I also believe that Vick will be back in the NFL one day.....not in Atlanta( he lied to the boss and that is never good)....but maybe Dallas or Oakland...or how great would it be for him to be in Cleveland with the Dawg Pound!xlolx He deserves a second chance but whatever team he plays with will definitely have him on a short leash! I think that some of this especially the media hype of course is due to his celebrity but I think the punishment should and hopefully will fit the crime. The NFL will not ban Vick forever because he will bring in too much money to whatever team he goes....and as for PETA rallies at stadiums....the Cowboys, Redskins, Cleveland, and Oakland are all used to having rowdy fans and visitors at the games so it wouldn't change much....or maybe the Jets or Giants could use him....there are plenty of crazies who go to those games...or what about the Eagles....they would just throw batteries at PETA!xoopsx ....one thing we as parents should always do is help our kids with their choice of rolemodels....if Vick the player/person is not who you want your child to become...do something about it and talk to your kids about why what he has done is wrong and about who would make a good rolemodel....I think we throw around the rolemodel thing way too much....well if a person is a bad rolemodel....whose fault is it....his for being dumb....or yours for letting your kids look up to him in the first place? OK...enough on this topic!

I thought the State going after Vick was overkill and Mike might have gotten some sympathy from people who think the courts are piling on.

The marajuana smoking is stupid and inexcusable. He's being drug tested and he has sentencing coming up. Dumb.

I agree 100% with everything above. If Vick wants that 2nd chance (which personally think he should get), then he needs knock this ***** off now. It's that simple. There are no guarentees he'll get another shot, but continuing to use illegal substances won't help him when he pleads his case in a couple of years.
