After being called in for emergency relief at quarterback, playing the position for the first time since high school, Nicholls State's Ladarius Webb has been voted Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week for football. Teammate Alex Romero is the league's special teams pick after nailing the game-winning 23-yard field goal with nine seconds left to give Nicholls a 30-28 win over Azusa Pacific. Central Arkansas' Tristan Jackson is the defensive selection this week. Following is a look at their performances.

OFFENSE

LADARIUS WEBB, Nicholls State, Jr., QB/SS, 5-11, 205, Opelika, Ala.

Webb lined up under center for the first time in his collegiate career and didn’t skip a beat in running Nicholls’ triple-option attack by rushing eight times for 120 yards. Included was a 76-yard touchdown run as Nicholls escaped with a 30-28 win over Azusa Pacific. It’s the second award of the season for Webb. However, the first was as defensive player of the week in week one after he intercepted three passes in a 16-14 win at Football Bowl Subdivision opponent Rice. On Saturday, Webb also returned four punts for 39 yards and three kickoffs for 89 yards, including a 40-yard effort.

Honorable Mention: Brian Babin, SLU; Nathan Brown, UCA; Derrick Fourroux, McN.

DEFENSE

TRISTAN JACKSON, Central Arkansas, Sr., CB, 5-9, 192, Beaumont, Miss.

Jackson had eight tackles (five solo), including 1.5 tackles for a loss (-3 yards) in Central Arkansas’ 42-38 loss at Missouri State. He was coming back from an injury and played only half the game.

Honorable Mention: Jermaine Boggan, NICH; Travis Williams SLU.

SPECIAL TEAMS

ALEX ROMERO, Nicholls State, Sr., K, 5-7, 125, Des Allemands, La.

Romero nailed the game-winning, 23-yard field goal with nine seconds left to lift the Colonels past Azusa Pacific, 30-28, on Saturday. He also had six kickoffs with two of them going for touchbacks.

Honorable Mention: Blake Bercegeay, McN; James Paul, UCA; Jeff Turner, SLU.

Good story on Webb...hope Bison Kent catches wind of this and makes sure this kid get a bit of notoriety for what he did this past week. Wonder if a player in SLC history has ever gotten POTW on both sides of the ball (not including special teams) before...
