I have a feeling the Feds are gonna let Vick off light, so im glad the state is going after him too, maybe they will actually give him a stiff sentence.

How stiff should he get? He's probably going to prison for a year at least. Seems fair to me. They could spend time going after all the other dog-fighters and making a bigger dent into that vs going after one person and his associates.

18 month's is not stiff for PETA and a damm dog in this loopie country.
A person convicted of killing a mofo will get less time than Vick because of P.C. bullshat.
Hell.................I wish he had faught the charges now.
What good do pleading guilty in this country do when you have a bunch of hysterical whinner's wanting a life sentence for a damm dog.
Please don't come in with the "look out for innocent animal's" crap cause he should be punished...............I said that.
But it's a damm dog, not a human.xsmhx

That'd be one hell of a plea bargain!!
This is ridiculous. I think a lot of people need to understand Surry County to understand what's going on here.
Surry County is a VERY small little county in Virginia where NOTHING ever happens (probably one of the reasons this place was HQ'ed there). So, I'm sure when this story first broke (remember, it was this prosecutor that did the initial investigation) that place blew up.
Now, Prosecutor Poindexter's been scooped by the feds. And, the people who elect him are left with a feeling that he's not doing his job. The biggest criminals in Surry County let free by the inability of the prosecutor to do his job.
This was as political a move as it gets.

If he had fought the charges, he would have been charged with RICO charges as well and probably would have gotten well more than he will get for the Fed and state sentences combined. You have to believe that the Feds had enough stuff to convict.
Gotta agree with mcveyrl why all of this resurfaced. Unfortunately, it's politics and people don't like to be upstaged.

Hell, they gonna try and give him life anyway.
These hysterical idiot's are gonna do everything in their power to keep him out the NFL if he lucky to get back in time.
So what difference do it make what kind of eveidence the FED's have if they are gonna be doubled up with State charges anyway.

I've always thought the fact that Double Jeopardy doesn't apply between state and federal courts was a little ridiculous, although I understand the technical distinctions.

I see where you got that. He did not get indicted for the 8 counts of animal cruelty so he cannot get those 40 years that people have been talking about. See the link below.

He was "only" indicted on one count of beating or killing or causing dogs to fight other dogs and one count of engaging in or promoting dogfighting. Each count carries a max of 5 years so he can get a max of 10 years for those charges. I don't know if the court can or will overlap time served of the fed charges. While not life, it is still a lot of time at the max that he can serve but no where (from what I understand) near what he could have gotten if the RICO charges were added on.
By the way, I am one that said he should be charged federally if true and argued with you on the fed counts, but I agree with you here.

The Surry County DA should be removed from the case due to a shocking level of incompetence. Vick admitted to 6 counts of killing dogs, and he only got 1 indictment through the Grand Jury? How is that even possible?

Agreed....
The fed's stepped in to take over the case due to the Surrey county DA's lack of movement on the case initially....now that the Fed's have done the dirty work, the DA is wanting some glory....hopefully the fed's will step in again and provide a little levity to the situation.....xnonono2x

If Vick is indeed guilty of these charges he deserves any and all punishment prescribed under both state and federal law.
In no way is this piling on or double jeopardy.
MEMO to Mr. Vick: Don't do anything illegal and you have absolutely nothing to worry about; commit a series of crimes and you subject yourself to arrest, conviction and punishment. You did the crime, now you have to live with the repercussions of your actions, sucks for you...xwhistlex
