According to this story, a major announcement regarding the future of ISU football will be announced at 2:30 today. Maybe the rumor of USD to the Gateway has some legs after all. As a Shocker fan, if ISU decides to end their program they will always regret it. Campus life will never be the same.

I thought there may have been some plans to build a new stadium...who knows? Could be wrong on what I heard.

Official name change. Taking the "y" out and replacing it with a "u".

Sad article here...

And ISU isn’t just losing football games; it’s losing moral support in the process. It’s hard to just grin and bear it any longer.

Yeah, it is sad, Hen.

One thing about INSU, they are recruiting in the middle of some difficult player-attracting country, next to Purdue, Notre Dame, Indiana, Illinois, etc, not to mention a gaggle of much better FCS teams in Eastern Illinois, SIU and ILSU.

Tough deal. Yet, Youngstown seems to get a decent team put togther despite proximity to OSU, PSU, Pittsburgh, MAC teams, etc.

Resources is the answer. Build a stadium on campus.

MHO only.

What will happen to the rest of the staff?

I'm sure they'll remain and some of them will be looking for jobs in November. Don't think Raetz has a "new" staff lined up at this late hour.

Good for InSU. It was obvious that West wasn't working out, and Prettyman (InSU's new AD) seems to be very aggressive in trying to fix Sycamore athletics.

You can't change entire staffs during the season, so Raetz will have to work with what he has. Indiana State does not have the money to be paying two staffs, let alone two coaches.

It is sad, but Capn' Cat hit the nail on the head..It is all about resources. When SIU started to putmoney i nto the program Kill made it work and awoke the sleeping giant that SIU was to everyone in the Gateway.

Coach Steve Barrows just left CSU to go to ISU, so I was concerned. He is a great man.

Lou West was 1-21.
It has to be an improvement.

Indiana State has had coaches with better winning percentages, but Raetz has the record for the most wins (94).
Indiana State won 9 games in both 1983 and 1984 under Raetz and made the playoffs.

Is this the worst job in scholarship FCS football? Looking at resources, recruiting base, depth of conference competition, lack of tradition and history, it might be the worst.

I recall a few years ago they were operating with considerably fewer than 63 scholarship equivalents.

What about VMI. They have tradition and history, but not much good has happened this century.

I'm no historian, but even VMI seems to win a few games each year. It's been a long time for ISU, according to the story 89Hen linked.

Good luck to the Sycamores! xthumbsupx xthumbsupx xthumbsupx

The vibe on InSt sideline this past Saturday did not seem very good at all.

I realize college football at this level is a business, but my prayers go out to Coach West and his family.

This century? VMI used to pretty much dominate the SoCon, even back when the conference had something like 20 teams. Unless by this century you mean over the last 7 years.
