RICHMOND, Va. -- Seniors Naomi Mitchell and Emily Ward paced the Richmond Spiders women's golf team in the first round of the 36-hole Independence Classic Sunday. Playing on what has served as their home course for the last four years, Mitchell shot a 1-under 71 -- best in the 22-person field -- and Ward carded a 1-over 73, to finish the day tied for third.
