LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI (14-10, 7-5 SoCon) continues its three-game homestand Thursday night when it takes on the Mercer Bears in Southern Conference action. Tipoff at Cameron Hall will be 7 pm. The Keydets enter the game having won their last three contests and will be looking to match the longest win streak of the season of four games set between November 30-December 11. VMI will be seeing its first action in six days after rallying from its largest second half deficit of the season (13 points) to defeat Western Carolina, 76-69, last Friday night in Lexington. VMI currently stands in sole possession of third place in the SoCon standings through games of February 8 with a 7-5 mark - one game ahead of Wofford, UNCG, and Mercer who are all 6-6 and locked in a three-way tie for fourth heading into Wednesday night's action. Mercer is 13-12 overall and dropped a pair of games to league leading Chattanooga over three days with a heartbreaking overtime home loss to Mocs, 74-72, Monday night in Macon. The Bears held on to defeat VMI, 97-91, in the first meeting between the teams this season in Macon on January 13. The Keydets rank second SoCon in scoring averaging 79.0 points a game excel in several other statistical categories and pace the circuit in free throw percentage (.777-14th in nation), 3-pointers made per game (12.3-2nd in nation), field goal percentage defense (.395), and defensive rebounds (29.1) The 14 wins for VMI this season are the most since 2013-14 and surpass the win output for last year's team that posted 13 victories in a shortened 25-game slate.
