Let the games begin. Home the USA has a great showing this year, being they are in China.

I'm just here for the freestyle skiing and to see if Alex Hall throws another switch double cork 2160 during Big Air.

That trick is an automatic gold medal.

I forgot they were going on.

In general, I find the Olympics less interesting every olympiad. The games have changed and look more like the X-games every year. The telecasts now have more talk and less action.

For the winter olympics, outside of hockey, there is very little head to head competition. Most events are either popularity polls, or individual racing against the clock.

A lot of weird events now. Plus you've got nations that dont follow the rule and the IOC let's them get away with it while they line there pockets.

That's why short track speedskating is more interesting than regular speedskating.

The solution to that is to melt the surface, expand it significantly, plant grass, use a ball, and play eleven a side with almost no substitutions allowed.

USA loses to Canada, outshoots them 2 to 1 and stats are for losers. Kind of feel bad for the USA team because in all honesty, the better team did not win here.

do you also feel bad for football teams that have higher yardage stats but lose (other team's defense stiffened inside the red zone, forcing FGA's instead of allowing TDs; or due to turnovers)?

No. Never experienced it actually. I will leave that to you UNI guys to talk about. I also said “kind” of feel bad, trust me, I am over it. The game was sort of meaningless anyway in the grand scheme of things and will provably get them more focused for the eventual medal game with Canada.

why is it dumb? (beyond the standard dumbness that comes with spending millions of dollars constructing venues that are only used for a week or two, then abandoned)

Alex threw another 2160 in round three but couldn't put it to his feet. Was damn close. Would have likely won him Gold. The competition wasn't as good as X-Games. But it wasn't really expected to be. Still some massive tricks.

WTF are you talking about?

Big Air Finals.

Alex Hall is an American freeskiier. He won Big Air at the XGames with a 2160. The way Hall does the trick, it is two flips and six full rotations after going off the jump backwards. It was first time it's ever been landed at XGames. If he had landed it the other day it would have been an Olympic first and won the USA more hardware.

Thank you, climate change,

About 80% of the snow (https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/winter-olympics-2018/2018/02/13/fake-snow-skiing-snowboarding/332591002/) at the 2014 Games in Sochi, Russia, was manufactured. When South Korea hosted in Pyeongchang four years later, that share rose to 90% (https://www.npr.org/sections/thetorch/2018/02/23/588308424/despite-frigid-weather-the-snow-in-pyeongchang-is-fake?t=1641570587007).

Four cities projected to remain climate-reliable in 2050 are Lake Placid, New York, Lillehammer and Oslo, Norway, and Sapporo, Japan.

the ice used for the curling and skating rinks are just as "fake" as the snow is.
as are the surfaces for the bobsled/luge/skeleton/etc. tracks.

I too do not have much interest in watching the Olympics. I would enjoy watching the event where 4 snowboards go head to head to head to head.

Our coverage of the Olympics is awful. Way too much talking and not enough event coverage.

If the weather was 70 degrees every day, same amount of moisture, nothing changed, then there would not be climate change. However, I'm not going into the political aspect, which was originally called Global Warming by algore.
