Robert Morris (2-1, 2-0 NEC) is off to a 2-0 start in NEC play after doubling up intra-state rival Saint Francis (PA), 28-14, at Joe Walton Stadium. The win comes one week after the Colonials opened conference play by picking up a last-minute road win at defending league champion Monmouth thanks to two second-half field goals from NEC Special Teams Player of the Week Michael Walser (Thornville, OH/Sheridan).
Wagner (2-1, 0-0 NEC) rebounded from last week’s overtime loss by marching past Marist, 24-14, on Homecoming Day at Wagner Stadium. Seahawks’ signal caller Matt Abbey (La Canada, CA/St. Francis) threw two first-half touchdown passes as Wagner jumped out to a 24-0 advantage. All-NEC kicker and punter Piotr Czech (Keyport, NJ/Keyport) made a Marist comeback nearly impossible by constantly pinning the Red Foxes deep in their own territory. Czech, who connected on his lone field goal attempt of 39 yards, placed six of his nine punts inside the opponents’ 20. He averaged 40.0 yards per punt with a long of 63 and no touchbacks.
Sacred Heart (2-1, 0-0 NEC) missed out on its opportunity to start 3-0, tripping at Iona, 34-10. The Pioneers, who entered the game at 2-0 for the first time since 2003, saw Iona quarterback Nick Rossetti throw four touchdowns in front of his home crowd at Mazzella Field. SHU quarterback and two-time NEC Rookie of the Week Dale Fink (Swansea, IL/Althoff Catholic) completed 25-of-38 passes for 223 yards, but was picked off twice.
