I think the NL is up for grabs.

Prince Fielder and Jimmy Rollins have a shot, especially if their teams make the playoffs.

Citdog, where's your heart..!!!
What would we do with old-washed-up slugging first basemen without the American league..???

I for one feel like it's a good thing...

Part 2
Pitchers win Cy Young's not MVP's = are for players.... xwhistlex

Wright is probably the leader in the NL right now, but Holliday, Fielder and Rolllins are right there, especially if they make the playoffs.

Anyone that doesn't vote for ARod should have the vote taken away.

They normally go to position players but a few have won even since they started the Cy Young award in 1956:

1992 - Dennis Eckersley
1986 - Roger Clemens
1984 - Willie Hernandez
1981 - Rollie Fingers
1971 - Vida Blue
1968 - Denny McLain
1968 - Bob Gibson
1963 - Sandy Koufax
1956 - Don Newcombe

However, that's just 9 out of the 102 given out since 1956, and I don't think Peavy was that good to win the MVP and Cy Young.

A-Rod is a no-brainer. In the NL, it comes down to Fielder, Rollins, Wright, and Holliday. I just like Holliday's stats when compared to those guys. The only thing Fielder beats him in is HR's, otherwise it's all Holliday. Rollins has somoe eye-popping stats (17 triples, 126 runs, 27 HR's as a lead off guy and he strikes out a lot less than the other 3) but I don't think that's enough, especially with the average just below .300. Hard to go with Wright, I'm not even sure he's the best guy on his team. I go with Holliday right now.

I just did - ARod has almost double the number of home runs than Magglio and is making the playoffs - ARod wins in a landslide. xlolx

HR's are overrated.

Is every one of those guys in the Hall of Fame on that list..??

if Peavy does it 2 more years in a row, now you're talking... but so far he's got a career 4.02 ERA (that's pretty average) and was 11 & 13 last year...

I don't believe one good year earns you a position players award... every one of those guys above (on your list) had amazing "career" stats except maybe Willie Hernandez who was on a team that won 105 games when nobody won that many games and he saves 1/3 of them.... xwhistlex so we agree

I don't envy the voters picking between a group of good but not great NL candidates. Could just come down to who gets in the playoffs, or at least gets very close. I like Holliday but the Rox have to at least stay within a few games.

As long as you're in contention for the playoffs then you can be in the hunt for the MVP. Can't fault a guy for not making the playoffs because his team has bad pitching or something else completely unrelated to his performance.

Not faulting, but a most valuable player should be one that at least has his team in the running at the end IMO. If we're just talking best players, it's Hanley Ramirez.

Don't count Magglio Ordonez out in the AL MVP race.

He does have 48 doubles, leading the league in batting, second in RBI's, and the Tigers are not out of it yet.

Well, you can't fault a guy just because the pitching staff for the team he's on is no good. MVP should be for the player, not whether the GM put together a quality team.

Right, but if that player doesn't lead to the playoffs or at the least right on the doorstep, how "valuable" was he? IMO they should just give a most outstanding player anyway and take that type of question out of it.

A Rod won it in what 2002 for the last place Rangers.

A Rod is batting near .320, has 50+ home runs, 140+ RBIs, and nearly 140 runs. Those numbers aren't just good for this season, those numbers are good for any season, all-time! Plus he has 28 doubles and 23 stolen bases to go along with those stats. He will win the MVP this year, or there is something wrong with the voting.

Ordonez - 195-H, 109-R, 48-2B, 27-HR, 132-RBI, .358-Avg, .594-slg
A-Rod - 168-H, 134-R, 28-2B, 52-HR, 140-RBI, .317-Avg, .664-slg

Any other year Ordonez probably wins it, this year looks like A-Rod

That sounds about right to me.

Beckett for AL Cy Young and Pedroia for AL Rookie of the Year. :D

Holliday - 192-H, 103-R, 46-2B, 30-HR, 119-RBI, .333-Avg, .587-slg
Wright - 167-H, 98-R, 35-2B, 28-HR, 96-RBI, .315-Avg, .542-slg
Fielder - 151-H, 96-R, 33-2B, 44-HR, 106-RBI, .289-Avg, .613-slg

Wright could win with lesser stats because he plays in NY.
