1. I would say that The Citadel and CSU would be a good guess for schools that play football. They are less than 20 miles apart driving distance. If you count league schools that do't necessarily play football, then it would have to be The Citadel and College of Charleston. Only about 1.5 miles apart.

4. Without even stopping to count, I would think that both VA and SC would be in the hunt on this one.

7. VMI has only around 1400 students, don't know if that is the smallest but it's close.

I think by mascot, he meant the nickname. That's how I interpreted it. Not the name of the character that patrols the sidelines. As evidence, I refer you to the question that asks about two schools with the Hornets as their mascots.

So I think several people have submitted the answer that the author was looking for in the UC Davis question.

and Alabama "Crimson Tide" (mascot is an elephant)

I already said Norfolk State/Hampton as the second, which I think are only about a mile further apart than Lehigh/Lafayette. Is this right?

I interpreted the student attendance to mean the number of students that attended the games, not the total number of students at the school. That's enrollment, not attendance... Someone needs to proof-read these questions... lol

When Wofford started the SoCon, we were the smallest football school in I-AA (and second only to Centenary in all of D-I). VMI had been the smallest football school prior to that. When Wofford started the SoCon, we were the smallest football school in I-AA (and second only to Centenary in all of D-I). VMI had been the smallest football school prior to that. Its truely amazing that Wofford can compete at the level you do with such a small enrollment. Yes VMI is also very small, but that enrollment must be 95% men. Wofford has to have the smallest male enrollment. I live right next to Moravian College a D-III school in Bethlehem Pa that has about 1,700 students. It seems impossibly small ( and I went to Lafayette with only 2,600 students) and I cant fathom such a small school having D-I athletics, but you make it work somehow.

Well, I think only DaGriz can tell us what he was after.
It's just like Miami "Hurricanes" (mascot is an Ibis)
and Alabama "Crimson Tide" (mascot is an elephant)

If I wrote the question, I'd be looking for Hurricanes, Crimson Tide, and Aggies.

I made a few obvious errors I realize. Three schools share the Hornets mascot. Weber St.-duh-I knew that just didn't fill it in. Twice I asked the same question. Sorry, my bad.
As far as an answer key, the point was to find out the answers from fans. I don't know all the answers but thought it was a good way to learn more about the FCS. I would assume if your coach is older than dirt, somebody will post it and we'll get the answer. There isn't any question on there as a group we can't come up with.

This was the whole point of the quiz. How much do we really know about the division we talk about every week? That's why I thought it would be interesting to find out some facts, learn some new stuff about other schools and other conferences.

It surprises me, and I graduated from Wofford! Wofford seemed small to me, based on the size of my high school. Also, the enrollment is close to 50% men, 50% women. One of the problems with being so small is that even if the complete student body goes to a sporting event, they don't take up much space. Its harder to fill the stands when you have fewer students, and thus fewer alumni.

Having looked it up, Joe Walton graduated from college two years before Bob Ford, so he must 72 or 73.

One of the problems with being so small is that even if the complete student body goes to a sporting event, they don't take up much space. Its harder to fill the stands when you have fewer students, and thus fewer alumni.

We have the same problem, if the entire student body was at the game it would still only fill 1/5 of the stadium.

I didn't know Wofford had that small of an enrollment. I think even more impressive is Furman (enrollment aprox. 2000) but they aren't just another FCS program. These guys are always a threat and to call them a powerhouse would not be an exaggeration at all.
