Texas A&M just pulled out of the Gator Bowl due to Covid...

The CFP instituted a "rule" stating a team will win the title via a forfeit if there's a Covid issue. When it comes to FCS the teams still have to follow certain protocols and the NCAA has their own policies relating to championship events. The game being played in Texas means nothing imo...

Just of note, one of the CFP Semifinals is the Cotton Bowl which is played in Texas....

I'm operating on the assumption that the teams are isolating and focusing on the game because that's what I would hope they would do with so much on the line. But they are college kids so that may be misplaced faith. Probably shouldn't have had all 20k people storm the field to infect the kids, but 3 weeks should be enough to clear protocols. Missing practice won't help the underdog's chances if any test positive.

I know the vast majority of NDSU's tier 1 personnel are vaccinated since I believe the MVFC made it a policy that if the team was 90% vaccinated or more no one had to test unless they showed symptoms. So, for the most part, if you have no symptoms there will be no required testing and no sit outs/disruptions. College age athletes are a pretty favorable demographic to have mild/no symptoms even if they are infected.

My worry would be the running attack as a whole. I know your team will get yards through the air and ground, but a tough running attack wears everyone down including the CBs and safeties. Then a vertical attack is easier to accomplish. So while the big play ability of Watson is scary, I don't fear it without first Leupke (and others) doing damage early. Also, while good, your QB isn't the most talented of QBs we have seen this year and that isn't meant as a knock, as ours isn't the most talented thrower you have seen either. Perhaps what I fear the most is your talented defense.

I would agree with your assessment of the running game and the QB play.

I am most concerned about the way MSU WR's have been on 50/50 balls but also how hard Touchdown Tommy runs. He runs like it is his last play and he is quick.

I really hope NDSU has a healthy Christian Watson for this game.

Quite possibly, yes. I hope that it's due to being the week between to major holidays and people traveling, as well as trying to keep up at work with back to back 4-day work weeks (for those that get the Eves off), but honestly it's probably mostly due to the respect that NDSU has earned and I, personally, don't like eating crow, so smack isn't on my to-do list. NDSU has given us a proper beatdown in the 2 previous playoffs so I don't see the need to be bombastic or boastful. I'm fully aware we face a daunting task, but I'm hopeful we give them a good game and with a lucky bounce or two, maybe we come out victorious.

Just watched the SDSU/MSU game again. MSU's DL looks better compared to the one in '19 but IMO, NDSU should be able to run on them. MSU got pressure with their front 4 a lot of times vs SDSU. If NDSU cannot pass protect with only a 4 man rush coming then they are in trouble.

I have no doubt that NDSU will get their yards on the ground, but I would think they will be held well short of their season average of 273.6 especially if Chase Benson is able to return. The last I have heard about the injuries was December 20th, when Vigen said "there's a real possibility that they (Ifanse, Benson, and Okada) could be back". Take from that what you will, as I would expect him to say that even if he knows there's no chance. SHSU (#6 in rushing) was held to 35% of their season average, but much has been made about the soft schedule that allowed them to accumulate those stats. SDSU (9th in rushing) was held to about 58% of their season average (~38% excluding the one long run that Strong was able to bust after Webb? was juked out of his jock). I think we may be able to knock around 100 yards off the Bison season average. Will the Bison passing attack, ranked 110th, be able to pick up the slack?

On the other side... can Tommy continue his exponential improvement throwing the ball? Running him 34 times against the solid Bison D won't be enough to pick up the W, even IF we can slow the Bison rushing attack to ~180 yards and keep the passing attack to around their season average.

This has all the makings of a tight, low-scoring slobberknocker. Which of course means it'll be a 45-35 type of game. xdrunkyx

Williams has actually been as close to a bell cow RB as the Bison have had going from about the Indiana St game on. Luepke didn't really emerge in that role except for the UND game early in the season and the JMU game. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Tamerik Williams lead NDSU in carries in the natty... he's really good he just hadn't been getting opportunities until later in the season. He's not the bulldozer Luepke is but he's better at breaking tackles as well as more agile IMO.

I don't listen to his podcasts anymore but I remember listening to the one from before the spring SDSU game when he kept saying Pierre Strong was the only SDSU ball carrier that could hurt the Bison defense. Some of his (Bison Report's) tweets during the NDSU/SDSU basketball game earlier this week were borderline comical in how slanted they were.

To be fair, we did get jobbed by the refs against the Bunnies in basketball this past week — the the only reason we lost the game. Never in my Bison fandom tenure have I seen Richman lose his **** like that.

I am now a Bison fan. I’ve already practiced the “z” in Bison and have worked on my first down chant. The gear is ordered and I’ll be in head to toe yellow and green come game day.

I reject my Jackrabbit fandom. Go Bison. We are the vastly superior team vs Montana State. Should be a blow out, I believe our boys will take care of it.

Oh I completely agree. There’d be an article on how Bobby got back to the ship, and #RTD, and yada yada. There’s no excuse for the lack of content, and it silently says a lot.


I just wish we had a decent alternative. Tom Stuber is too much of a homer for my taste, Victor Flores is dumb, and Pool is meh. With the cost of living in Bozeman and what a paper like the Chronicle can pay, I don’t see it getting any better. That none of the Chronicle guys have even tried to start a podcast shows how bad and unmotivated they are.

It looks like the plane landed in Fargo. With all of the blowing snow, it's kind of strange hearing the planes fly over our house and not being able to see them. It must be getting better because I could see the last jet that landed, but not enough to make out which airline it was.

I'm pretty sure before the teams boarded the planes they knew themselves and the opponents had enough players and fully intended to participate so that shouldn't happen. Both teams are being delayed getting out though today.

Damn. That sucks nuts. There's flights out of SLC for reasonable but you'd have to be on the road as I type.

We had an adventure. Flew out of Cody. Inbound flight from Fresno to Denver to Cody was delayed 2.5 hours. Got rebooked on a flight leaving for Dallas 34 minutes after we were supposed to land in Denver. Sat on the tarmac for an hour waiting for dingle**** to figure out how to deice a plane. Teams who haven't ever been there or have been there only a few times in their history might have some margin to do it but the parents of kids who have been there for the 5th time pretty much are not likely to do it anyway. So who would be rushing the field? Freshman students who have never been and want the same experience they will most likely get the next three years anyway? xlolx

Damn. That sucks nuts. There's flights out of SLC for reasonable but you'd have to be on the road as I type.

We had an adventure. Flew out of Cody. Inbound flight from Fresno to Denver to Cody was delayed 2.5 hours. Got rebooked on a flight leaving for Dallas 34 minutes after we were supposed to land in Denver. Sat on the tarmac for an hour waiting for dingle**** to figure out how to deice a plane. Obviously missed the rebooked flight. One last gasp to make it tonight-standby. And it actually pulled thru! Finally got to the hotel at midnight. Ordered some ****ty fast food cuz even Domino's wouldn't deliver. Time for bed.

Yeah, driving to SLC was really the only way to hopefully make it down there in time. A 6-7 hr drive on clear roads and still no guarantee you'd get a flight (or that it wouldn't also be cancelled). I thought about it, but there wasn't much room for error with the game starting fairly early the next day and the rest of our group wasn't up for it. I checked out of Bozeman, Billings, Butte and Helena as soon as we got the message that it was cancelled but every flight was full (might have been one or two with a single seat).

There are quite a few people on BobcatNation who can't make it or are worried they won't due to cancellations, delays, etc. from all over the country but especially in Montana. One guy that was on our flight immediately hit the road to SLC last night and is in Dallas now. A couple we know was planning to drive to SLC this morning after booking an afternoon flight out of SLC. I hope they make it - they still have to worry about cancellations/delays.

In hindsight, travelling the day before the game just doesn't leave much room for error. Wish we'd planned to go down on Wed or Thurs but that would have complicated things with work and when we scheduled (a week before the SDSU game) these mass cancellations weren't a thing (or maybe I just wasn't aware of it yet).


Glad to hear it paid off for you to wait. There's a bunch of tickets going up on the NDSU Facebook ticket exchange now. I chuckle at people still listing for above face value. It's a buyers market now and getting anything back on tickets you won't use is a bonus at this point.

I listed our 4 tickets on the NCAA (AXS) site last night after I knew we weren't going to make it. The minimum price it would let me list for was about $80 and they all sold. I ended up losing about $35/ticket but that's a lot better than $115/ticket if they didn't sell.

We bought tickets, flight and hotel the week before the SDSU game. Thought we were in good shape. Every seat on a flight out of Bozeman has been sold out since the week after the SDSU game. Didn't count on all these cancellations. Checked out of all the airports within a few hours. Seems the only way would be to drive to Denver or Salt Lake tonight and see what we could find when we got there.

That ****ing sucks. I hope you have a good group to watch it with back in MT. I will be watching at home in the Twin Cities and am still super excited (doesn't matter how many times a program goes to the title game it is always awesome).

Funny I really enjoy the vast majority of NDSU posters on here so I say this with no disrespect, but 9/11 years has really taken the fun out of the championship for me. It’s like every year they say to the single best MAC team “oh to win the mac championship you have to beat bama” it’s just gotten so stale.

Same. When Montana St won, I felt WAY more comfortable going into this game. I would not have been confident had they played the Joose is Loose Bunnies.

In college football it is way, way too hard to beat the same team twice in one season. The Alabama/Georgia game will be a testament to that. I wanted the Jacks again in this game. Stig is a good coach but not a championship coach. I was jumping for joy when I heard they signed him to another 2 years, LOL.

As I am typing they go 21-0.

Actually there is a reporter, I think from SD, that said Stig is tired of playing NDSU, that his team is never the same after that game. He said that Stig has said this multiple times. The reporter actually said Stig stated he would not mind moving out of the MVFC to get away from that game until the title game.

An then the INT. hehehe, my 31 to 10 bet is good, as long as Montana gets a field goal.

Also this just amplified how much of a travesty our loss to MSU was. In no way shape and form should SDSU ever lose that game, but yet we did because our coach doesn’t know how to win when it matters. Congrats NDSU, you’ll keep on winning until SDSU figures out that our program could be so much more.

I don't agree with that. I thought MSU's front 7 played well against SDSU's physical front seven. Your secondary got torched over and over by the Bobcats passing game. Villanova had guys running wide open too by Tommy is a better QB than the Cat's Smith. Villanova played you guys tough but the Jacks ground game and missed plays by Nova in the second half was the difference. Montana State was able to keep the gas pedal down for 4 quarters unlike 'Nova. Sacramento also torched the SDSU secondary in the second half. SDSU was a bit fortunate to win that game. The Hornets outplayed SDSU in the second half.

SDSU has a good program but they can't hold NDSU's jockstrap outside of a meaningless regular season win from time to time. Alabama has those too.

SDSU has a nice program but they're definitely not a better team/program than MSU. Honestly, MSU has better support.100% disagree. SDSU is a better team, but Vigen knows how to beat Stig and that significantly helps. Stig is not a great coach, he just knows how to recruit great athletes.
