Jackson State has a lot of defensive weapons. I have no faith in Buddy opening up the playbook and once they get behind, SCSU is not a team that is known to be able to catch up when put in a hole. I think the SWAC earns a double-digit win, 31-17.
Great season Fighting Deions.

Yea they will but haven't yet so it currently it is. A lot of scalpers took advantage of the me plus 3 promotion and now are reselling them at 100 percent markup. Its a wild time. Those Club seats that were 100 are now going for 250 plus

Even if Jackson State was in the FCS playoffs and winning games, I’m not sure it would attract extra attention to FCS as a whole compared to the SWAC Championship being held on ESPN 2 and the Celebration Bowl being on ABC.
We know that more eyes and butt in seats will happen with those two games above compared to the FCS Playoffs.
There was a guy at EWU that had 80 pass attempts this past week and was it national news? Sam Houston winning streak has been impressive but I don’t know how many games, and has it been national news? I’m not asking these questions to be a smart a$$ but I don’t know.
The SWAC Championship and Celebration Bowl is in national spotlight, and it’s not because of Deion only, nor is it because it’s SEC talent on the field. It’s because of the deep history and the interest in HBCUs.

Yeah I think it could increase playoff attendance and TV numbers, but they would never allow JSU to host a game. I think the FCS and Prime should work together to put some of that marketing hype on FCS. Right now he's primarily focused on HBCUs

Prime has a more experienced staff and a much better QB than FAMU. FAMU has had issues in the past or even this season with either the wrong game plan or not sticking to it. The two teams are not the same.

Not to mention that a few teams had bad games. Should every team that lost by 2 TDs or more be banned or have their conference banned? How many times do we see across all sports teams get to the post season and lay an egg or don't play like they've been playing. Is SELA considered a bad team now also?

Maybe it wouldn't be quite as big but wherever JSU and Prime are is going in be big in one way or another. If it means just a percentage of people who normally don't check out the FCS, that's still something

Yeah I think it could increase playoff attendance and TV numbers, but they would never allow JSU to host a game. I think the FCS and Prime should work together to put some of that marketing hype on FCS. Right now he's primarily focused on HBCUsAssuming you were referring to the NCAA, instead of JSU itself or some other entity, as “they,” and assuming that the 60k+ seat Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium meets all other NCAA requirements (which one would imagine it would), FUBeAR believes JSU would host an NCAA FCS Playoff game if…
1) they received & accepted an unseeded, at large bid and their financial guarantee to the NCAA exceeded that of their 1st round opponent
2) they rec’d & accepted an unseeded, at large bid and were scheduled to play another unseeded Team in the Quarter- or Semi-Finals and their financial guarantee to the NCAA for those rounds exceeded that of their scheduled opponent
3) they rec’d & accepted a seeded, at large bid, they would be guaranteed to host a 2nd round game and would host games thru games thru the Quarter- and Semi-Finals as long as they were scheduled to play a lower seeded or unseeded Team
4) they accepted the AQ bid that FUBeAR believes the SWAC would receive if the SWAC sent their champion to the Playoffs, in which case the 3 conditions above (after “at large bid…”) would apply regarding hosting of NCAA FCS Playoff games
So…theoretically, if JSU elected to participate in the NCAA FCS Playoffs, they would allow JSU to host up to 3 (2nd Round thru Semi-Finals OR 1st Round, Quarter- and Semi-Finals) every year.

The difference is the HBCU teams have generally been annihilated in their first round playoff games. It has been a consistent trend.

And so have other conference members, before they got over the hump. (see recent SLC play for example)
As honestly stated earlier, typically, there are ONLY the powerful 4-5 (NDSU, SDSU, JMadison, ..) at the end who are annually there, sans those who were intelligent and jumped to FBS (App St, Ga Southern, Troy, Marshall, ...).
As Sonic98 alluded earlier, is SELA now magically transitioned to a "bad" team since they were routed? ::insert retarded smiley here::
FUBeAR
December 9th, 2021, 12:36 PM
A couple of peeps have asked in this thread if SELA was a bad Team.
Since y’all asked and FWIW, FUBeAR doesn’t believe SELA was a “bad Team,” but he also feels strongly that they certainly did not merit an At-Large Playoff bid.
They rec’d an At-Large bid with an 8-3 record.
* 1 of those wins was over 0-11 HBU that was really only even competitive with 1 other Southland Team…Northwestern
* 2 of SELA’s wins were over Northwestern…who was 3-8 w/2 close wins over the 0-11 HBU Squad
So…almost 1/2 of SELA’s wins were over really poor Southland opponents. They also had OOC wins over…
* 3-8 North Alabama
* 4-7 NEC Team C. Conn. St…who lost to 2-8 LIU Post…whose only other win was over 0-11 Wagner
So…really 5 of SELA’s 8 wins were over pretty darn bad Teams. Their only decent wins were over
* 4-7 McNeese which was 2 of the 3 decent wins…and both of those are marginally decent wins
* 6-5 Nicholls is a pretty good Team (better than SELA in FUBeAR’s opinion), but they did lose to SELA in the 1st half of the season
So…really, SELA has 1, just 1 solidly good win (over a 6-5 Team) in an 11 game season…AND they lost to that Team in the final game of the Season!
No way does that resume deserve an At-Large bid in the FUBeAR book, but the Playoff Selection Committee likely just said “Hmmm…8-3…sounds good…and we need a Team that we can ‘swing’ regionally between the SE states and TX…the Lions are IN!”
So…allowing for the context in which the question was asked…FUBeAR’s answer is…”Yes, yes they are.”

So what happened with JSU yesterday. Too much distraction from all the marketing and hype over a DEFENSIVE BACK LOI flip. Neon Deion not focused on the task at hand. Too many kids reading their news clippings.
What happened. They got their asses handed to them. I watched the game. JSU looked decent early on but the couldn’t put SCSU away. Kept hanging around, got a bunch of momentum on that TD after the turnover and JSU folded

Not really. AAMU beat SCSU twice this year and AAMU is the same team JSU dominated 65-18, at AAMU's home.
I think the SCG 2 weeks earlier gave SCSU the blue-print to stop JSU offensively, coupled w/ a defensive minded legacy coach Pough.

I know I never had a dog in this fight since I don't follow the MEAC as often as the SoCon and even if I did, I would rep Norfolk State (I have a MS degree from them). Jackson State had all this talent, a head coach who has an ego unseen anywhere in FCS, won all of these games with the exception of a close loss to the Monroe Republic...
...AND THEY GOT THEIR KEESTERS HANDED TO THEM ON A SILVER PLATTER!
Show of hands, how many of you who voted for Jackson State made their way to Crow-Fil-A for supper? Maybe someone should come in and talk to Coach Prime and the Jackson State football team about how pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit goes before a fall.

If we are going strictly off best HBCU team I think you have to give it to FAMU. While they finished 9-3 check their losses:
6-7 to JSU, in a week 1 matchup
17-38 to FBS South Florida
14-38 to Southeastern Louisiana in the FCS playoffs.
Now JSU on the other hand lost only 2 games however one was to a 7-5 SCSU team 10-31 that FAMU blew out 30-7
JSU also lost to D1 Louisiana Monroe 7-12.

2019 Celebration Bowl: 1.8 million viewers
2018 Celebration Bowl: 2.35 million viewers
2017 Celebration Bowl: 2.36 million viewers
Pretty much a highly watched game. Awesome. xthumbsupx
But I think the key to high viewership to any of these games is the fact they are on ABC or other MAJOR network that is easily accessed by the whole United States viewing area and NOT some ESPN paid subscription that you have to have an app for your tv and search out the game specifically.
I would love to see the influence this kind of broadcasting has vs. the internet games.
Is that the real reason the viewership is so high?
The two competing bowl games on Dec. 18th were both on ESPN (not everyone gets this channel) and were not major bowls and still both drew close to an average of 2 million viewers per game ( 1.9 million and 2.25 million).
Just something to ponder.... xlolx

Looking at those attendance numbers of 48k in a 45k stadium, I wonder does it take into account those who stayed tailgating just outside the stadium? If not then I can see many more in attendance but not in the stadium. That's impressive! xnodx

Agreed, it is impressive for two FCS programs on 2 weeks notice, in Jackson States case. I think the 48k is the amount of sold tickets and not the folks in the stadium. They purposely shut down the upper bowl dropping the capacity from 70+ to 40+.

Gotcha. So the stadium wasn't sold out...just the portion that was open..and that was tickets sold not actual attendance. Still impressive numbers. More than most FCS have ever seen in one game.

Fans got totally screwed this game. These 3rd parties bought up tickets and left people scrambling. A lot of people were looking for tickets at the last minute and couldn't get the good ones. Then despite the good TV numbers, there was a co-broadcasting deal that fell apart at the last minute. Of course the arena didn't want to sell the 45K to start with. It could have been something we hadn't really seen before. It should have been packed like a game in Jackson and one of the best TV numbers ever for FCS
