The final tally has been made, and congratulations to MR. CHICKEN on winning the 1st annual Pick 5 Survival League! Below are the final results and data.

Again, a huge thanks to all those that participated. It is pretty amazing to think that the players remaining had to have chosen 50-60 (of the 120+) teams over the course of the year and not have a run of slip-ups within a given week, so kudos.

Finally, I would also like to use this thread to take suggestions on how we might improve on v. 1.0 for next year. Thanks again.

Suggestion 1 - a perfect week must be all games correct with a full complement of eligible teams selected. 5/5 is perfect, 4/4 is the same as having a loss with 5 selected.

Suggestion 2 - a weekly elimination happens when more than 1 is incorrect (or less than 4 are correct).

As I mentioned in the other thread, maybe a 6th (emergency) pick could be made each week in the case of a game cancellation or invalid pick.

Also, I think now that the introductory honeymoon season is over, in the future, picks that are invalid should be marked wrong. People need to check their own entries.

Yes, game cancellations and invalid picks are something that will certainly be addressed. That said, MR. CHICKEN did have one less pick to achieve the most correct picks (and had less room for error that week...I know, it was week 1). I think the results are still quite valid, but I also agree there is room for improvement. I appreciate the suggestions.

I intend to have the Pick __ Survival League again this year. However, I have been mulling it over a bit, and I was trying to decide between a few options, as 5 picks per week seems like it was a little too easy and had to go with tiebreakers last year.

I was thinking the following:

1. Pick 7 teams/wk, must get above 0.500 for the week - seems maybe a bit too easy, but does require one to pick 84 (out of 128) teams for the year.

2. Pick 7 teams/wk, must get above 0.600 for the week - a bit more challenging, as one could only get two incorrect per week (which was the same number one could get wrong last year when 5 teams were picked).

3. Pick 8 teams/wk, must get above 0.600 for the week - this is more challenging from the perspective of having to use 96 (or 75%) of the teams for the year, but a bit lenient in that one could get three incorrect and still proceed on.

I welcome suggestions (and if feeling up to it, reasoning) for how many picks and requirements for "correctness". I feel like having to get 4 out of 5 (or 80%) is perhaps a bit too challenging, even though it is easier if you proceed on, since you would have more teams left available to pick for future weeks. Therefore, I would like to increase the number of picks per week, and offset by allowing some leniency in missing some. Thoughts?

I like the 8 per week idea (part of choice 3) and the max of 2 wrong idea (part of choice 2).

And require ALL picks submitted to be legitimate/qualified picks to be eligible.
