NEW YORK - NFL has suspended Michael Vick (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20429109/#) indefinitely.
The announcement came hours after the Atlanta quarterback filed a plea agreement in federal court in Richmond, Virginia. In that plea, Vick admitted to the charge of dogfighting. He denied ever betting on the fights.

In a letter sent to the Falcons quarterback, league commissioner Roger Goodell (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20429109/#) wrote, "Your admitted conduct was not only illegal, but also cruel and reprehensible. Your team, the NFL, and NFL fans have all been hurt by your actions."

Not a shock. I expected this. We'll have to see how this plays out. I expect that Vick will get some prison time and after he is released the Commissioner will allow him back in.

Don't know if any teams will want him though. In addition to this Vick also had the "coach killer" label attached last year by Jim Mora.

I thought Goodell would wait until the federal sentencing and then tack on an NFL suspension after that.

I think it's because he saw what Vick's plea deal was. I bet the suspension gets lifted when his jail term ends. OTOH, if Vick had plead guilty to gambling, this ban would just be the beginning.

I'm wondering when Arthur Blank cuts him.

Also, Vick is being suspended without pay, so does his salary count against the Falcons' cap limit?

as long as he remains on the Falcons team his scheduled pay for the year remains part of the cap

Indefinite suspension AND it counts against the salary cap? He'll be cut before the end of the season, maybe the beginning.

However, if the Falcons cut him today, could they go out and spend $10 million dollars on players tommorow?

there would be a cap hit i would assume if they released him. But I think there set on Harrington at QB so im not sure they would toss around that much if it was available.

ESPN analysts were saying last week that Atlanta was better off leaving Vick on the suspended list until next June, then cutting him, from a salary cap POV.

yea but the longer they keep him around the more chance for backlash, there best just tossing him as soon as they can and eat the cost that comes with it.
