View Full Version : AGS Top 25 - How They Fared - Week 4, Fall 2021

Preferred Walk-On
September 25th, 2021, 10:36 PM
With all but one game in the books (Southern @ Mississippi Valley State; Sun, Sep 26), I am posting the How They Fared sheet for Week 4.

In this week’s edition, I have decided to include teams that have been ranked at any point during the season (and I will continue this for the remainder of the year). Although these teams are outside the current top 40, this might help in either not forgetting about them (or having further reason to forget about them) when it comes to rankings. It will also help me to keep up with teams that enter/exit the poll each week. These teams will be listed near the bottom of the sheet.

This week, the top 11 teams were undefeated (or did not play), and the bottom 14 teams were a combined 3-9, with only East Tennessee State, Missouri State, and Virginia Military Institute winning (all one score games, one OT game, and at least one game where a team had to take the ball away not once, but twice to have a shot at the end).

This week also marks the end of most FBS/lower division games, with conference play in full swing next week for everyone. Happy polling, and if you notice any mistakes, please let me know.

Yep, it's one if those weeks where the last 8 teams in the top 25 can be drawn out of a hat with 30 or so teams.

One team off the radar people may want to look at is Merrimack. That Holy Cross win is looking better and better and it doesn't take much to get into the bottom part of the top 25 right now.

‘In this week’s edition, I have decided to include teams that have been ranked at any point during the season (and I will continue this for the remainder of the year).“ Very timely with all the losses toward the lower end of the poll. There will be a lot of changes in this week’s poll, with some new names popping up or some formerly ranked teams reappearing.

Basically, The top 25 is extremely competitive at the top and a crap shoot 15-25.

I feel the same way. I'm pretty confident in my top 14 teams. I just had to try my best with everyone after that.

Is KSU still ranked 38th? Because even to my biased troll mind that is ridiculous.

Well, considering there hasn't been another poll since you first whined about them being 38th... yes, they are STILL ranked 38th. Maybe pump the brakes for a full week before the "everyone is out to get us" spiel. Polls are weekly and there's a new one coming out today.

FWIW, the only reason they will move up after being idle is due to spots 18-40 having so many teams lose this weekend.

Agree on Merrimack, I included them in my poll.

You think he's bad now. Wait until they start parading JSU as a marquee win.

Don’t think the new STATS poll is out yet, but Jacksonville State is 17th in the coaches poll. Owls are 20th

In KSU's defense, and I will try to refrain from any troll tendencies, everyone on this board knew that KSU was going to be 1-1 after week 2. A win vs Reinhardt, a loss against Ga Tech. If you watched the game vs Reinhardt you would have seen a well oiled option machine, Owls ran for 332 yards on 67 carries, 5 YPC. The reason the score was close was because of shambolic special teams(82 yard KO return, blocked punt) that directly led to two TDs.

In addition, the Owls ran for 339 yards on 63 carries averaging 5.4 yards against Wofford. These numbers are right in line with our most successful offenses of 2017/18.

If you compare these numbers with the spring season, we averaged a rather pedestrian 268 YPG and 4.7 YPC. You will see a much improved offense. I am not suggesting that KSU should be ranked in the top 10. But we deserve to be in the top 25.
