YSU defense is much better than EWU’s. That’s not really saying much, but the difference is there. Plus YSU is doubling us up on TOP. EWU defense fell apart because they were spending most of the time on the field and it was a pretty hot day.

Absolutely disgraceful final 32 minutes by YSU. When you come out in the second half expecting to coast to a victory while your opponent made key adjustments, you simply deserve to lose. Certainly one of the worst losses I can recall in the programs 1AA/FCS history. The Wolford choke-job vs Missouri State in 2010 (May be wrong on year), is up there as well, but that was under different circumstances.

The team that wanted it more and made the adjustments won this game. My hats off to Western Illinois.

At this point in time. I'm not sure if the ship can be turned around. It might have to be a total reset from top to bottom.. and we all know the nepotism machine will prevent that.

Haven’t heard anything about Wanza. Seems like they’ve been relying on Choquette more lately, and with an offense so heavily pass-oriented, the ground guys may not be getting a ton of opportunities. He might have gotten a bit banged up against EWU too. I’ll try to keep an eye out for him next weekend.

YSU has limited talent. No QB that can pass well, a small great RB who can’t take a pounding from a lot of carries,an OL with blocking issues. On D , the DL is poor and can’t get a big pass rush leaving the DBs trying to cover WRs who get too much time.

The talent always looks good until the coin flip. Even a well planned first half game plan looks good until the second half starts and talent level comes front and center with adjustments. Having 37 players from the Valley are wasted schollies. Practicing nepotism selecting HCs who are only from the Valley is also disastrous.


One last real chance to win 2 games comes down to the Indy St. game. All other MVFC games YSU will be a decided underdog. Maybe a good first half game plan will look good, but check the score at the end of the game. There isn’t much future here either. Get rid of Strollo. Then rebuild with a new AD.

Thanks, although I don't know that we can depend on second-half offensive performances like that in every game.

Not sure if it was mentioned, but the 28-point comeback ties a MVFC record (for all games) and sets a conference record (for league games), as well as a school record. At one point down 35-7 (28 points), WIU came back to win by 3, 38-35.

The only other time a MVFC team has come back from being that far down was in a game in 2008 involving South Dakota State playing at Stephen F. Austin. SDSU was down 34-6 (28 points) midway through the 3rd quarter, but ended up winning 50-48 on a rushing TD as time expired.

The previous best for a league game (game involving two MVFC/Gateway teams) was also Western Illinois, who, in a game back in 1988 found themselves down 31-8 (23 points) to Missouri State in the 3rd quarter. 3 TDs in the 4th quarter ended up giving the Leathernecks a 35-31 victory over the Bears.

I'm absolutely amazed that there was either stubborn coaching in "we are going to run this gameplan anyway" despite seeing they needed to adjust to what was given. With them stacking the box like that, it is not like we even had to go downfield with long throws! Short little dunk passes here and there, screens throwing to ogletree... I am just amazed.

Really what took the cake for me, I really liked the fake punt, but then everyone knew that was coming when they tried to get it off. I understand going for it on 4th there, really I do, but IN NO WAY should we have gone for it on 4th down with a run out of shotgun. That was the worst play calling I have ever seen. I would have lined up in I and either had crenshaw keep it, or get ogletree in lined up behind crenshaw at HB and hand it to him.

I thought I was done with this, but, but you are drawing me back in, Yo. They were also prepared to put Waid in the game as a Wildcat QB so Crenshaw didn’t take a pounding. Ogletree ? I’d be throwing to him 5-10 times a game. I’d be throwing to my backs. Play action given our heavy running attack. You would think the
playbook has options when you show such a heavy reliance on the run game. Yet, bear with me -

YSU QB recruits on the roster - Crenshaw, a Frosh and 2 time Big school Champ with good running ability and little arm. He had D-I offers who told him he would be converted to RB, so he came to YSU because they told him he would play QB and he already was better than our guys. Craycraft, a senior, has an arm, no judgement, slow and doesn’t read well is the backup. Waid is prepared t be the Wildcat QB after being the starter last Spring.Add in no answer 3 other QBs. Next, the former projectedQB from scam school Bishop Sycamore ( with former YSU star Peterson being involved) who , it is quickly determined is no QB at all. Presto, he’s now. TE. And finally the 5’9 Army transfer who can’t throw a lick from big school power Canton McKinley where he was an option QB. He is now a DB.

You have to go back to Wolf when we were actually recruiting real FCS players with potential as he man handled Pitt and sent Bozo Pelini to the Natty with Wolf players. Down the crapper since then.

And this game was against the preseason consensus MVFC basement team. Wait till you see the upper half of the league,lol. Of course, the coaching is top notch at YSU. Why ? Because we hired another local boy who works cheap and has a wealthy friend of his who gives financial gifts to YSU.

Better yet, your buddies on the cheerleader board have missed the source of all these problems.

The next year (2012) he just doesn't beat a P5 team...but humiliates them. The next season, he improves to 8-4/5-3. In his final season, in addition to a winning record, he was beating a P5 BIG team in Q4 (the butt punt changed the dynamic of that game). No scandals, no convicted gang rapists...just Youngstown-style football that made you look forward to Saturdays.

The program is now dead. Not comatose, not circling the drain...but dead. Cause of death? Massive incompetence by moRon, who inexplicable continued presence guarantees no resurrection of the program is possible. Now that Bozo and the rapist are gone, I'll watch and follow the team, as I did since I was a kid....but have no illusions they'll amount to anything.

I hear ya about finishing strong, but one year his final three games were SDSU (advanced to second round of playoffs), NDSU (eventual champs), and UNI. How many teams that entered the playoffs that year that would've also gone 0-3...prolly most of them. Today we'd kill for a season like that.

Only to a limited extent, Yo. He faced a back end jammed with all the MVFC powers in a murders row. A few injuries, a DC and YSU getting shaft from the playoff committee left him vulnerable to know nothing fans and an idiot AD. My evaluation at the time is Wolf was the first coach since Jt who had all the parts together for a solid program - except for a DC. There I blame Strollo again for his tight fisted purse strings , being the educated bean counter that he is by education. Otherwise the man knows nothing about an AD. Wolf had the players to compete in the MVFC and just 2 years later his players were in the Natty under Bozo, who knew D. Meanwhile the AD is adding bowling, more women sports and bringing back swim/diving. If he really wanted great FB, he was a short step away lacking a decent DC but the SOB wouldn’t Spring for a DC. Wolf went thru 3 DCs in his short time here. And I could write novels about his recruiting. He outdid JT but didn’t have the hardware to show for it. For all the times Strollo screwed up hiring a loser, extending a loser, he blew it big time letting one go early that had all the pieces together. That’s another reason why the program will never be chit again while Strollo is there. I remember all the glowing remarks about rewriting the O record books with Hess under Wolf, dog stomping Pitt, not cellar dwellers Akron and Can’t St. and still an AD sees the team only needs a DC.

But the bean counter struck again. Trust me, you think otherwise, but this coach will fail, big time, and the program is headed further down under Strollo. I don’t see a winning class for at least the next 4 years and recruiting so far, pulling in a Bishop Sycamore player and more local “ stars”, the program is doomed.

True, but the trend was up, except for the final season. He also inherited a team with a combined total and conference losing record the prior two seasons.

YSU should've been in in '13 and had a higher SRS than some selected playoff at-larges.

In the perfect world Wolf could have stayed as the recruiting coordinator/O-line coach. 4 years of EOY meltdowns provide me enough evidence he's not HC material.

Some throw the D under the bus during his tenure but when it came time for conference play the D was on the field way to long because the O wasn't quite as proficient as in the weenie games..

Bozo was AFU and created major problems for the university.. The crew we have now is lost and seem to play developing players BS! It's ****ing D1 football if they need this much developing maybe DII or III was where they should be.

It's broke nothing I can post will fix it.

I've did some soul searching and going to be a nicer more gracious poster on here. Sorry to all I've offended.. especially Pally and Clenz..
