LORMAN, Miss. - Just hours before Coach Quinn Gray and Alcorn State were getting ready for kickoff for their home opener, the Braves' quarterbacks coach was on the interstate, making a nearly 8-hour drive from Tallahassee, Florida to Lorman, Mississippi after he was recognized for being one of the best to ever suit up for the Florida A&M Rattlers by being inducted into the FAMU Sports Hall of Fame. The classes of 2020 and 2021 featured 24 new members to its prestigious lineup Friday.During Gray's time at Florida A&M, he set several FAMU records as a football player, including all-time leader in passing yards (7,378), all-time leader in pass attempts (1,113), all-time leader in pass completions (562) and all-time leader in TD passes (57). He also holds the school's single-game record for most pass attempts (65 vs. North Carolina A&T in 2001).Gray went on to spend four seasons in the NFL, playing for the Jaguars, Texans, Colts, and Chiefs."Coach Gray is well-deserving of this honor," said Alcorn State head football coach Fred McNair. "We're blessed to have him on our sidelines to develop our signal callers. Coach Gray's induction is a testament to how great of a player he was for the Rattlers as well as his immense knowledge of the game."His enshrinement was confirmed upon receiving the customary green blazer, Hall of Fame medal and a plaque. The classes were combined into one event due to the cancelation in 2020 resulting from the coronavirus pandemic. It's also worth mentioning that the nearly 8-hour drive so close to game time was worth it. The new quarterbacks coach went on to pick up his first win as a member of the program in comeback fashion, and the go-ahead score was, of all plays, a quarterback keeper from his mentee, Felix Harper.
