Another poor week of picks to go with a poor week of performances. Missed on a few results in both directions, including the lone League win (way to go Hoyas). 4-3 last week, 7-6 on the season. Ivies joining the party on Saturday, preseason is over.

Princeton at Lehigh Princeton Lehigh has had a rough start to the season, getting overwhelmed by two good opponents. I suppose Princeton is technically easier than Villanova, but enough to matter? Probably not, given the Tigers haven't had a losing record since 2011, and expect to be in the thick of the Ivy race again. Good Ivy beats bad Patriot, so I guess somethings don't really change.

Holy Cross at Yale Holy Cross Going out on a limb here, that the HC team we saw Saturday isn't the real thing, but one a bit full of itself after the UConn win. These things happen in college football, the perils of working with 18-22 year olds. The defending Ivy champs are a stiff test, but I'll pick against a sweep by going with the Crusaders getting to 2-0 in the Nutmeg State.

Harvard at Georgetown Harvard Good showing for Georgetown, rallying for a victory after nearly two years off from playing. Definitely nice to get some game time under their belts before a big visit from Harvard. The Crimson have stumbled lately, sitting around .500 for the last three seasons. I won't be surprised if Georgetown has another good showing, but this is a step up from Delaware State.

New Hampshire at Lafayette New Hampshire Hanging tough defensively while not generating enough offense? Is Lafayette the new Bucknell? Unless they've found some more firepower, hard to see the Leopards keeping up with a usually good (at minimum) Wildcat team.

William & Mary at Colgate Colgate Saturday was pretty dire for the Raiders, and while they had flashes of success, in the end they were pushed off the line both offensively and defensively. Is playing another game at home, plus the respective long trip for the Tribe, enough to get a better result? Here's to hoping.

Fordham at Florida Atlantic Florida Atlantic Say what you will about Fordham, they are certainly scheduling aggressively. Two FBS opponents is a bit too aggressive my taste, but who turns down a trip to South Florida, even this early in the season? Probably not going to learn much about the Rams' chances of knocking off the Cross in League play, but a good showing would be nice to see.

Pennsylvania at Bucknell Pennsylvania The Quakers and Bison have only met 35 times, which feels like a small amount for two teams in the same state. I guess Penn was getting too many games with Lehigh and Lafayette, but interesting. Penn doubled them up in 2018, and while I think Bucknell is in a better place, that's still beneath Penn's place.

Well, since last week our 'Pard friend introduced the new Forbes College rankings I figured I'd drop the latest US News and World Report's version. At this point it's probably healthier to discuss academic pedigree over athletic accomplishments given the horrific current state of football. We can thank some of the loonies at these institutions for this. A grand plan come to fruition? Meh, Stanford just ran Clay Helton out of LA.....

Personally? I believe UChicago is the most intense, academically rigorous institution in the country....

Chicago may be "where fun goes to die" but at least it tries to be well rounded. CalTech is intense to the third power. After all, CalTech dropped football because students couldn't find time to practice. The men's basketball team (11-14 in 2019-20) averaged 80 per game in home attendance.

And what school posts this on their web site to attract potential students?

"Mathematics is the bedrock of all coursework at Caltech...Therefore, in order to be academically prepared for this curricular rigor, applicants should be able to demonstrate to the Undergraduate Admissions Committee a mastery of calculus and a proficient readiness to study math topics beyond calculus. These topics include, but are not limited to: Set Theory & Logic; Differential & Integral Calculus; Linear Algebra; and Ordinary Differential Equations."

Extremely! I just referenced this on the Lehigh board. I don't see Lehigh staying within 3-4 TDs of a very talented Tigers squad. Surace is going to want to send a strong after message after nearly two years away from competition.

I don't endorse gambling but if Princeton at -3 is "bettable" toss a Benjamin on the Tigers.

I saw on the 2024 schedule thread where someone stated their team is getting a 350K guarantee on a game. So Fordham did the sacrifice at Nebraska and now doing FAU? How much is it getting for each? I saw Jax State got $400K for FSU. Anyone know how much Lafayette collected in Colorado Springs?

Yale 31 Holy Cross 27 - The Crusaders bounce back with a strong effort but the Eli are simply too good. The thought of an at-large bid ends...
Harvard 21 Georgetown 17 - I give the Hoyas a punchers chance against a Crimson program that has become an enigma the last 5 or so years....
UNH 24 Lafayette 16 - The 'Pards defense is good enough to win this game. Can their offense generate either 2 or 3 quality drives or 2 or 3 big plays?
W&M 23 Colgate 10 - The Tribe make it two "ugly" wins in row against PL competition...
FAU 34 Fordham 21 - Fordham will put up a reasonable fight but the Southern Owls are simply too deep and talented; Rams fall to 0-3 but could be the PL's best team...
Penn 31 Bucknell 10 - The Bison are truly awful. From what I've ascertained, Cecchini is getting very little help from the Bucknell administration....

Changes have to made! This unacceptable! What happens in Hamilton next week is irrelevant, just two of the worst teams in FCS playing each other....

Great win for the Crusaders after a tough loss last week! Great to see the PL take down a quality Ancient 8er....

Defense has been creditable, only giving up the FG on a relatively short field. They are also getting some help from the W&M offense, which has wiped out several big plays with penalties (11 total for the Tribe). Brenneman was hurt, walked off under his own power but they removed his helmet and pads before he came off (not sure I've ever seen that before). Sophomore Harry Kirk takes over. Raiders have the ball, it would be nice to get an actual TD this time.

The homers reffing today in Hamilton. One TD nullified and already 10 penalties for 99 yards against W&M and only Q3. Despite, Tribe up 24-0.

A TOUCHDOWN! Some good running from John Cox set it up, and Harry Kirk runs it in himself. First TD of the season

Took the extra point, not sure why. Should have gone for two, or at least tried

Nice INT for Colgate off a deflection earlier in the quarter. This may surprise you, but the Raiders did not convert that into points

Sorry but you’re wrong. Colgate is getting blown out. The team stats show it. The score does too.
I’m not used to the Formerly Red Raiders being this bad. Or Lehigh for that matter.
Gate may be better in league play. Lehigh won’t be.

Well, they got a TD this game, that was a plus. Defense was solid against a W&M offense that appeared to be potentially more explosive than Stony Brook. How much of that was actually the defense versus Tribe's poor execution and foolish penalties (they were surprisingly undisciplined). The offense struggled all day, though showed some life after Kirk came in. Not going for 2 at 24-6 was a curious call, that's another time this season the coaching staff seems curiously conservative (we're behind, it's not likely but at least take the shot).

Patriot League's saddest pillow fight of the season next week, as Lehigh comes to Hamilton for Homecoming

No PL game can be the ultimate pile of dung unless Bucknell is playing.

Which will happen at 6 pm. I'm watching this one because I want to preview Penn, which is Lafayette's net opponent.

I was going with Fordham but keep getting an “Event Delayed” screen.

CORRECTED because I am an idiot. The game of course is in Florida and is actually delayed.

Gilmore is my favorite coach.
"I really liked a lot of things we did defensively," Gilmore said.
They lost 32-0.

Give this guy a 10-year deal!

Oregon 17 - Stony Brook 7 at the half. Weird.

Frustrating that HC laid an egg against Merrimack. We’d be looking at a top 10-15 ranking at 3-0 now.

Yes - I saw this score come across the Auburn game and ran over here....I guess it's NOT a misprint? Good for them!
