Trying to find a SHSU mini-helmet for my grooms cake at the wedding. Need any help possible in finding a place that does this.
My wedding isn't til January, so I wouldn't need the helmet til December, but figured now is as good time as any to begin searching for a helmet for the grooms cake.
Thoughts?

I've seen a website that had tons of minis from schools of all sizes, and I thought I had it bookmarked, but I can't find it right now. I'll keep looking, but my best advice is to google for college helmets and work from that direction.

Been doing that for awhile and I'm not seeing Sam Houston State helmets anywhere. I've seen a few other FCS helmets along the way -- most notably NDSU and McNeese State -- but not SHSU...

According to Wikipedia...
A groom's cake is a wedding tradition typically associated with the American South. While a wedding cake may often be decorated in white and light in texture and/or color, the groom's cake can take a variety of forms, many incorporating chocolate or fruit. Cheesecake sometimes serves as a groom's cake. The decoration of the cake may reflect the favorite hobby or interest of a groom, or be used for humorous effect, as depicted in the film adaptation of Steel Magnolias, in which a red velvet cake was fashioned in the shape of an armadillo. The groom's cake is often served at a separate table from the wedding cake at a wedding reception, though it may be served as a dessert for a rehearsal dinner.

Hence, the Bearkat cake which may be scrapped if I can't find a Bearkat mini-helmet. May have to go with a Texans cake...:p

I know for a fact, that the helmet can be made with chocolate. I work in a hotel and our pastry kitchen does some amazing things.
Or instead of a mini helmet, make your entire cake the size of a regular helmet.

I've got a Northwestern St. one (actually 3), let me know if you want to borrow. :) Found in a store somewhere.

I had one and my brother-in-law had one with the Nicholls State logo on it. HERE'S A SITE (http://www.mypastrychef.com/html/body_groom.html) with many more examples of what they could be.

This is a fantastic idea, but I think I would have trouble destroying something so beautiful.

Here is a link to a place I have got helmets from before. I have most of the 'West' teams in my collection. It has just about all the FCS teams and most of the old logo helmets as well.

No problem, TT. By the way, congrats on the upcoming wedding. I had a groom's cake for my wedding over 5 years ago too so it is not just a southern thing. My cake had toy 1/64 scale agricultural tractors (what I work on in my real job).
I like your idea of the helmet though.

The cake place does a great deal of LSU stadiums that run over $300 and it's not the actual stadium. I was thinking of doing the Bearkats field, but I'm doing a simple Bearkat helmet on top on a white cake with orange decorations. Very simple.

Congrats, TT. In thinking about the cake, I am a pastor near Natchitoches and recently did the wedding of a young couple in our church. The lady who made the armadillo cake for the movie is a friend of the groom and made him a replica for the couple's home & garden wedding shower. If you need an armadillo, we can hook you up.
