Hard to believe just ten years ago, I was pitching BP to Matt and the rest of 11-12 year olds on the Goose Creek All-Star Team.

Matt had a stellar career in high school, then GA Tech. Great kid, level headed, never heard him talk bad about anybody. Loves playing the game.

Scary thing is we have another kid from the same All-Star team and Matt's
High School teammate that will probably get drafted in the top 5 next year.
Justin Smoak, 1B, University of South Carolina. Justin is a lefty, bats with power from both sides of the plate.

Besides, as a lifelong Pittsburgh Pirates fan, this leaves a very bad taste. (Continuing 15 years of incompetence, the Pirates passed on this guy because they were afraid of his agent, Scott Boras. Instead, they wasted a high first round draft choice on a freakin' middle reliever from Clemson. A middle reliever, fer gawd's sake! A lesson fer ya: In any organization, incompetence begins at the top.)
