Lorman, Miss. - It had been nearly two years since the last time Alcorn State played a football game before suiting up to face North Carolina Central in the MEAC/SWAC Challenge to open the 2021 campaign. The Braves wasted no time and scored on the opening drive when senior quarterback Felix Harper connected with wideout Juan Anthony for a 20-yard touchdown reception, following a key 4th-and-12 conversion. The Braves continued to move the ball on offense, led by Stadford Anderson, who amassed 105 yards on just seven carries in the first half, including a long run of 68 yards in the opening frame. However, neither team managed to find paydirt for a while and the next score wouldn't come until the :29 marker in the second quarter when North Carolina Central signal caller, Davius Richard, called his own number and reached the endzone on a 6-yard run. That run knotted the score at 7 as teams headed to the locker room for intermission. On North Carolina Central's opening drive of the second half, they marched down the field with ease and capped the drive with a 1-yard touchdown run from Davius Richard to take a six-point lead. The Braves blocked the extra point, but the Eagles took their first lead of the game, 13-7.Alcorn quickly answered. Felix Harper and company countered by putting together a drive that ended in points when he found running back Niko Duffey on a short 4-yard touchdown reception. The successful extra point made it 14-13 and ASU regained the lead. After North Carolina Central's Adrian Olivo connected on a 28-yard FG to give the Eagles a 16-14 lead with 13:39 remaining in the fourth quarter, NC Central's Brandon Codrington increased the lead when he scored on a 77-yard punt return for a touchdown. That 9-point lead would be all the cushion the Eagles needed as they held on for a 23-14 victory.
