View Full Version : Don't Worry, Jon Lester Will Be All Right

Jon Lester returned to Boston in grand fashion tonight with a performance that should draw millions of Sox fans off the ledges of bridges from Maine to San Diego.

Lester pitched seven strong innings allowing just two hits and a single run that was scored on a sacrafice fly.

For most of the night it looked as though Boston would squander another solid performance by a starter trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the ninth.

Manny Ramirez led off the ninth with a strike out, Mike Lowell followed him with a solo home run to tie the game and atleast guarantee extra innings. That however was not needed because after Kevin Youkilis struck out Jason Varitek doubled and was singled home by Coco Crisp for the game winner.

Eric Gagne worked a solid ninth inning for the win, he struck out the side around a two-out double by Brendan Harris.

With New Yorks loss Boston extended their American League East lead to five games.

HOLD THE PRESSES: The Yankees Still Suck!

Just when everyone thought the "real" Yankees had finally arrived, the real Yankees have reemerged.

Baltimore improved their record against the Yankees to 7-4 on the season with a complete beat down of the Bronx Bombers....errr perhaps that nickname won't work today.

Behind a strong performance from Daniel Cabrera, New York was held to just two hits on the night and one of those was an infield single by Alex Rodriguez.

The final score was 12-0

Dude, with a 14 game lead down to 5, don't you think it's a TAD early to be thinking about a "magic number"?

Good W for the Sox last night, even though they couldn't hit. Well they beat Tampa's only 2 hurlers & should get the brooms out today with Dice-K.

They scored more then the Yankees did last nite xlolx xlolx 2 hits? LOL One of which was an infield single.... Ya them Yanks sure are scary.... atleast Boston has pitching to go with the offense that doesnt always show up... NY has nothing to go with there absent offense.

I think it's too early for the Red Sox to feel comfortable with their position, but the benefit of that 14 game lead they had is that the Yankees could go on such a successful run, over such a long time, and they are still 5 games back, which is actually a pretty good lead. The Red Sox can't feel good that their offense has deserted them at times lately, but they do have that pitching staff to fall back on and that makes up for a lot of sins. With the Red Sox schedule the rest of the way, and with a 5 game lead, things certainly look good for the Sox. But both the Red Sox and the Yankees should be worried about what will happen come the post-season, assuming they both make it - Detroit's pitching staff is just getting healthy and the Angels are scary good. Those are the two teams the Yanks and the Sox will have to play first round - the Yanks picthing is still suspect and the Red Sox offense and Gagne are suspect. Might be a fight to the finish and a divisional title just to see both teams knocked out in the first round.

By the way, look who comes to town for each this weekend: Anaheim at Boston (2 friday, Sat and Sun), Detroit at NY (4 starting Thursday). We'll see who's stronger.

Bostons pitchers this weekend

Friday: Josh Beckett
Friday: Clay Buchholz (MLB debut)
Saturday: Curt Schilling
Sunday: Tim Wakefield

I like our chances for 3 of 4 atleast. But I conservately have Boston down for a series split.

Of course its not. They aren't going light it up every night. But, they are the best offense in baseball since May

So.....Rivera was brought in the top of the 10th, score is 3-3. If anyone remembers, his last appearance, he blew a save chance (first time in 19 chances or something like that). Yanks still won that game. :o Not the point...:p

He gave up a double to Markakis, then a double to Tejada. Boom, O's up 4-3.

Then he gives up a 2-run homer to Huff! O's up 6-3.

Two straight blown appearances by Rivera!! xlolx xlolx

Final: Tampa Bay 6, Boston 5: the legendary Al Reyes strikes out Manny Ramirez with 2 on in the 9th to get the save.

Final: Baltimore 6, Yanks 3 (10 innings): the Yanks didn't have one more comeback in them today.

Last year it was Tampa Bay and this year its the Os. For some reason, the Yanks have a problem consistently beating 1 team in the East.
