Invited walk-on made a huge impression on the ASU coaching staff during fall camp in 2006 ... he eventually earned scholarship money and a spot on the travel squad ... his season was cut short by an injury, but he received a medical redshirt and has four seasons of eligibility remaining.

2006: Appeared in first three games of the season as a true freshman ... had a breakout performance versus Mars Hill, catching his first-career pass for 11 yards and running twice for 10 more yards ... unfortunately, the impressive performance came at a price, as a hand injury forced him to sit out the rest of the season ... he received a redshirt for the season and has four years of eligibility remaining.


High School: Was a four-sport all-conference performer at Kernersville Glenn H.S. ... amassed over 4,600 combined yards as a runner, receiver, passer and kick returner during his prep career ... named the 2005 Piedmont Triad 3A Player of the Year ... coached by his uncle, Dickie Cline ... also earned all-conference accolades in baseball, basketball and track.

Van Cooper Jr. is Montana's ninth leading returning tackler. He will see plenty of action both at strong safety and on special teams. He has not missed a game in his career and has played in 41 contests in a row.
