Wow. Can they succeed where the AAF and XFL have had failed?

No.
But what was your favorite USFL helmet? I'll go with the Breakers. For some reason it seemed to be unique, despite being in three different cities- Boston, New Orleans and Portland.

If they keep the former New Jersey owner away it might work. He screwed up the last USFL.

If only John Bassett hadn't died.

You can't blame Trump for the end. He kept the league alive. Oakland, Denver, and Tampa Bay were the only teams to be slightly in the black. The others were deeply in the red.

Curious to know how many FCS players will tryout for one of these eight teams....?
Are the players amateurs in the sense they don't get paid? Do they have to buy their own uniform? All games in Birmingham?
Michigan Panthers
New Jersey Generals
Pittsburgh Maulers
Philadelphia Stars
New Orleans Breakers
Birmingham Stallions
Houston Gamblers
Tampa Bay Bandits

Chicago Blitz helmet from 1983, not 1984. I was trying to get Dayton to adopt that look. Replace the words 'the blitz' with 'the Flyerz' as the helmet decal.

First game of the reborn league is on April 6 to be simultaneously broadcast on two free-to-air networks.

Kickoff is April 16 - I assume just a typo on that last post. But wanted to clarify.
Still no schedule yet - this league seems a step behind.

It appears that this league is owned by FOX Sports. Players will get a base salary and bonuses for wins. They also will get free online education if they want it.
My gut feeling is that this is a league for JuCo players who don't get rides at 4-year schools and players who don't have the academics, as well as a few players who have used up their college eligibility and have nowhere to go.
The players will all live in hotel rooms in Birmingham for the season. Somehow I don't see that ending well.

I hope one day we can get a solid spring professional football league that stays alive past their first year. The XFL was pretty fun in 2020 before COVID hit, some of the star players ended up in the NFL like PJ Walker.

Too many players from the big schools who dont make it initially in the NFL will use it to keep playing and try to sharpen their game. Wont be much room for jucos.

Several decades ago, the WFL (World Football League) replaced the first down chains with 7 1/2 foot adjustable pole (since the ball is never more than 2.5 yards away from a yard line).
I suspect the chains still exist for the drama of "bringing out the change". It would be incredibly easy with modern technology to measure first downs with a laser.
The chip in the ball might reduce the number of video reviews, but as far as first downs are concerned, the chip in the ball has no way of detecting when the players knee hits the ground.

#69 Evan Heim played for MSU-Mankato.
I wonder why this was broadcast on both NBC and Fox?

From the article:
Going forward, each USFL kicker will kick with their own balls on kickoffs, punts, field goals and extra points, according to Johnson.
That sounds painful.

To fasten the pace of the games and to keep the games to less than three hours in length... the league announces a new running clock for the first and third quarters.

Unlike the two other minor leagues of football that emerged in the past 5 years, at least this league finished its inaugural season. The Stallions are the champions.
