A year ago, John Baranowsky spent much of his first preseason football practice on the sideline nursing a strained hamstring. A year later, the 6-foot-3, 290-pound defensive tackle bounded off the practice field with a smile from ear to ear.
"A lot of the boys really bought into the idea that you don’t ease into this," Baranowsky, a senior, said Monday. "You just get right to work. Everybody’s smiling because they know they put in work today."
That was the general theme of Monday’s helmets-only practice, the first workout of the preseason for the Dukes, the favorites to win the Colonial Athletic Association’s South Division. ...
