So are these the guys that weren't good enough to make the Senior Bowl? Or do these HBCUs not hold pro days? xeyebrowx
There's talent everywhere in those conferences...in every conference for that matter...so why the combine? Honestly asking. Heck if the FCS conferences can hold onto their top talent in the future and they NOT transfer to FBS schools (G5 or P5 that is) because of that stupid transfer portal then hopefully more than 4 or 5 FCS kids can get drafted.

There's a combine because the NFL wants to have it, long story short. The first HBCU Combine was supposed to be held last year but covid killed that. It was rescheduled this season and held in Birmingham at UAB. The NFL scouts enjoyed it and the NFL decided to officially take over the HBCU Combine and HBCU ALL-STAR game which will be held in New Orleans. This is all a part of the growing partnership between HBCUs and the NFL.

Not intended as a political statement
Let's hope it isn't a case of the NFL paying lip service to diversity.

There have been plenty of HBCU players who have gone on to have long NFL careers and in some cases Hall of Fame careers. Walter Payton (Jackson State), Jerry Rice (Mississippi Valley State), Michael Strahan (Texas Southern), Steve McNair (Alcorn State), just to name a few. Strahan was born in Houston, raised in Germany (his father was in the Army), and spent one semester at Houston Westbury before returning to Germany. For those who don't know, the Texas Southern campus is right next to the main University of Houston campus.
