They need to beat Maine, UMass or JMU in addition to the other teams they beat last year. And that ain't no small task either.
This horse is very dark.

But they're more experienced. I could see them beating both Maine and JMU.
Still you're probably right regarding their dark horse status.

They get UT-Martin and EIU at home, miss JSU and have a total of 7 games in the state. Antonio Heffner is the real deal.

They go 9-2...and theycould get in depending on who the losses are to, IMHO. That being said, 9-2 could include wins over Colgate, Hofstra, or Fordham.

Agreed, The Citadel will have a good club and they competed well with the rest of the SoCon last year and finished with a 4-3 conference mark. However, no winning seasons since I think the SoCon championship team in I think '92, so they would be a dark horse. I pick them to go 8-3 and finish 2nd/3rd in the conference and make the field.

The only thing that made me hesitate about The Citadel is this question:
Who do they knock off to make them the dark horse. I think they have to win two out of these four to have a chance:
ASU
Ga. So.
Furman
Wofford
That's tough. I also think they have to finish in the Top 3 in the SoCon, which they could probably do if they accomplish the above.

Georgia Southern is not a threat to any contending team in the SoCon this year, Citadel shouldn't have any problem with them.

I don't bet much, so don't make it too big a number, but I'll take this one, especially since they have to come to Statesboro and we'll be well into the season by then. You don't even have to give me any points. They usually give us a pretty good game anyway, but we owe them one from last year. In fact, since so many people are giving us no chance I'll take us as the darkest dark horse.

We knocked off 3 of those 4 teams in 2003 (ASU, GA So. & Furman). It can be done again.

The Toy Soldiers have the firepower to beat anybody in the SoCon, but it remains to be seen whether or not their defense can stop anybody.
I also wouldn't count GSU out either. The fact is they outgained opponents by 20 ypg last year and had a lot of really close losses. Hell they almost beat us by just giving Jayson Foster the ball and letting him run. Also there is the revenge factor carrying over from last year. GSU is probably at least a year away from playoff contention, but they certainly have the talent to win some games.
I'll say the top five of the SoCon will be as good as it has been in a while.

Wow. Thanks for the vote of confidence, but I don't think we are quite there yet. In order to go 8-3, we have to only lose to 2 SoCon teams, since Wisconsin is going to be a loss. I think that in order to have that record, we would definitely have to be 2-1 after the App/Furman/Wofford series. I see GSU as the most dangerous SoCon team on our schedule this year after App.

True...but I also gag at some of the responses here. Fact is...if an Albany (or any NEC team for that matter), makes the playoffs...it would have been a surprise.
The schedule Albany has is conducive to the possibility. What makes them a darkhorse is the fact they could very well win Colgate or Fordham (maybe slight dogs)...but if they beat Hofstra and go with a 6-1 mark in the NEC...that WOULD get them in...making them a dark horse because of the possibilities.
Homer or not...that is a fact.

Not saying a ranked team can't fall flat on their arses, but I just don't think you can tab somebody a darkhorse when they are already in the Top 25.

Tennessee Tech is Away, therefore they travel a short 1 hr drive away and play instate. And actually, they play 8 games in Tennessee, Austin Peay would be the other instate rival.

Which, while I am a homerist on this issue, is why I picked Albany:
1. Conducive schedule (more than any other non-auto league team)
2. Good chance for two big OOC wins
3. Third OOC win puts them in the driver's seat
4. Needs to blow through the NEC (something no team has done in recent memory).
5. Is from a non-autobid conference...making any team from the NEC an unlikely choice.
Again, if UA did get in...we would all look back and say...WOW. My .02
