6 MVFC Teams in Top 25 -- The Missouri Valley Football Conference continues to dominate the Top 25 rankings, with six teams in both the Stats Perform and AFCA coaches poll this week.
5 Teams in the Field -- The Missouri Valley Football Conference matched an all-time high with five bids in this year’s field. Only twice previously in FCS playoff history has one conference sent as many as five teams in a 16-team field (CAA had five bids in both 2007 and 2008.) The CAA holds the all-time record with six berths during the 2018 tournament.
MVFC in the Playoffs -- The Missouri Valley Football Conference is 103-55 during the past 23 years in the FCS playoffs (since 1997). Overall, a league team has appeared in 14 championship games and in 27 semifinal games.
Supremacy in the Decade -- During the past decade, MVFC teams were 67-28 in the FCS playoffs, and only one other conference (the CAA at 44-39) had a winning record. The MVFC had 11 intraconference playoff games in the decade, meaning MVFC teams have a combined 56-17 (.767) record against non-league teams in the playoffs since 2010.
Playoffs -- Last Year -- In 2019, four MVFC teams earned selection to the NCAA Division I Championship. North Dakota State won its eighth national championship in nine years, and the MVFC’s four teams went a combined 8-3 in the playoffs with only one of those losses at the hands of a non-conference team.
Against the Top 25 -- League teams have combined for a total of 19 top-25 wins this year (three non-league games and 16 wins against league foes).
Elite Company -- NDSU and SDSU are the only two Football Championship Subdivision programs to reach the playoffs each of the last nine seasons. NDSU holds the longest active streak with 11 consecutive trips to the playoffs. Every league member, including past members, have earned a playoff spot.
Playoff Bids - MVFC History -- The MVFC has had a league-record five teams selected to the playoffs four times (2014, 2015, 2017, 2020-21). In the past seven seasons, the MVFC has had a total of 31 bids.
MVFC vs. MVFC in Playoffs -- This week’s game between North Dakota and fellow MVFC member Missouri State is the 14th matchup of two MVFC schools in the playoffs. It marks the first opening-round game involving two league members (Missouri State and UND did not play one another during the conference schedule this spring.) In 2014, Illinois State and North Dakota State played an all-MVFC championship game -- the only time that’s happened in FCS Championship history.
The Power 5 -- In the past 10 playoffs (2010-19), five leagues (Big Sky, CAA Football, MVFC, Southern and Southland) have combined to win 182 of 217 total games. The MVFC has 66 of those 182 wins (36 percent).
