According to espn, it seems this is a done deal. On the surface it seems like a good trade, Teixeira is only 27, is a home run and RBI machine, but the Braves will be giving up on their top 3 prospects...Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Elvis Andrus, and Matt Harrison. I can see letting Salty go being he is a catcher and the Braves just signed McCann to a new contract, but..... xeyebrowx

The Braves are the frontrunners for Octavio Dotel as well.

Good trade for the Braves as Salty was blocked by McCann, who just signed for 6 years and is only one year older; Andrus is blocked by in order from top to bottom: Renteria (who is under contract for two more years), Escobar (who is 24 and only a rookie) and Lillibridge. The fact that they brought up JoJo Reyes instead of Harrison is indication of which lefty prospect the Braves liked better. I don't know anything about the 19 YO Dominican pitcher.

Picking up a good lefty reliever who keeps the ball down is also a nice get for the Braves and sorely needed as they had NO lefties in the bullpen prior to this trade after designating ledezma for assignment.

There are rumors swirling that the Braves and Royals have an agreement in principal for swapping Kyle Davies for Octavio Dotel pending the completion of the Tex/ATL trade. Also other minor rumors less likely to come true concerning the Braves ahve them offering the Reds several players including prospects for Bronson Arroyo.

The Braves will bat Teixeira 4th which will give them switch hitters with good average and power back to back in the lineup, which if they will bat McCann 5th and Francoeur 6th gives them RSSLR 2-6 in the order and makes situational matchups extremely difficult for opposing managers. Their lineup will stack up against any in the NL including the Mets.

You've gotta like their lineup and if they get Dotel he and Mahay will help their beleagured bullpen. Now if they could just do something about getting another starter...

With some of the injuries in the last few days to Utley, Beltran, Victorino the Braves got much stronger as their rivals got weaker. Whether this will be enough to put them over the top who knows?

Also, in other baseball news affecting the Braves and the NL east, Pedro makes his first rehab start Wednesday. It will be interesting to see how that goes...

What I'm hearing from ESPN is that there aren't any good starting pitchers on the market. Can't get help there, so they have to get it elsewhere, namely first base and relief.

Also, I'm sure that there'll be some deals available during the waiver trading period.

Both Dotel and Arroyo have pretty high WHIPs. But we do need a left hander.

Anybody's better than Soriano right now.

Were you watching last year? You wouldn't take Soriano over Chris Rietsma? I know you're using a little hyperbole, but damn, this bullpen is tons better than last year's bullpen, even with some of the struggles. Last year's stench is STILL on the nose, so there isn't any way I can bash on this year's.

Yea, I saw where Reitsma might be done for good.

But Soriano's been groovin' it lately and at the wrong time.

I was at the Pirates game where he gave up a game tying 3 run HR. It seems like at least once a week the past month he's given up a big HR.

I don't want our standards to be last year.
