Found out today that Norfolk State snagged Dawson Odums from Southern University. Has a pretty good record with Southern.

I wonder what made him leave Southern with the success he was having there. Was the compensation package at NSU greater along with being back close to home? NSU hasn't been on too firm of standing within D1 with their finances along with the MEAC questionable conference status if/when NCCU, DSU and or Howard leaves for another conference.

180k with 1 year left on his deal at SU

New deal at NSU 225k for 6 years.

More money and more years. I don't SU extends contracts past 2 years.

With that deal it was a no brainer then for him to jump up to NSU. He has a strong resume if he can rebuild the program and get them to the top of the conference with SCSU & NCCU he'll be able to retire in Green & Gold with some rings on his finger and maybe a HBCU title or two.

He was born in Shelby, NC. Played collegiately at NCCU, so I am guessing family may have something to do with it. Interesting side note is he coached at Gardner-Webb which I think is a stone's throw of his hometown.

This is false. Odoms was making $210k at SU and his Norfolk deal is $240k annually.

The hot rumor (https://www.nfl.com/news/southern-university-interested-in-hofer-marshall-faulk-becoming-head-coach) is that SU is looking to jump on the burgeoning trend of HBCU's hiring NFL Hall of Famer's with minimal coaching experience, in this case, Marshall Faulk.

Looks like you're right, they're promoting from within. (https://www.wbrz.com/news/southern-finds-next-head-football-coach-official-announcement-planned-for-friday/) Jason Rollins, SU's current safeties coach and special teams coordinator, is expected to be introduced tomorrow.
